This is a quilt being designed for my niece - first time I tried exporting picture - don't know if it will work. Please give me your honest opinion - the design down the middle - is it too much? What would I replace it with? Thanks

I like everything except the middle. IMHO it is too busy. Perhaps an applique or just leave it blank for some beautiful quilting?

thanks scowlkat. That was the area I was stumpted on...the center block on the top or bottom - it would need something, a more simple design?

I love it! I'd remove 4 of the striped blocks and have a cross! It's a beautiful quilt. Too difficult for my limited abilities, but very beautiful!

I think I would flip either the top or the bottom half of the blocks that create the diamond outline in the center, then see what you can do in those two outer center blocks to create the upper and lower corners of that diamond.

Hope you can figure out what I'm talking about!

I think I'd edit out the radiating sun shapes in each corner. This would give you more room for some special quilting too.

I have hundreds of quilt patterns, and seems to each their own, from simple to very complicated, beauty in the eye of the beholder. As a gift, I'm sure she'll love it because who it came from more than details.

When stitching/quilting, use the thirds rule, divide each block and quilt 1/3 smaller, and 1/3 larger (feathers) and the pieced of the block is 1/3. Then balance, have a variety of stitching, when it's done, 2/3 should 'loft' and 1/3 should be stitched down (smaller, tight, asst stipples).
Again, sharing from a class with Sharon Shamber. But hey, she's won so many awards, her work is amazing, google her, to understand what I'm saying.

I think the flying geese blocks through the center are just too busy. I think you might want to replace them with blocks that have a larger focus, such as a star block or square in a square block. There is no place to rest your eye in the design as it is.

I love the four corners, don't know about the middle. If it were mine I wouldn't want that busy of a center.
