too many Christmas quilts
I don't know if anyone has asked it before but has anyone made too many Christmas quilts. I keep seeing all these adorable quilts and I want to make so many of them. I am wondering how do you pace yourself with all this inspiation?
I have made several. I kept one and have given the rest away.
You're right - it is hard. I think that's why so many of us have "bucket lists" that would take us several lifetimes to complete !! :)
I don't have a single Christmas quilt made. I have a kit but not sure I have time to make it between other projects. But I'd love one or two or three!!!!
Sorry, didn't know there was such a thing as 'too many' of any kind of quilt!! I have Christmas quilts for each bed, wall hangings, table runners, candle mats, etc. and still make new Christmas things every year. My kids will fight over them someday so it is up to me to make sure there are enough to go around (haha).
I have over 6 project going right now that are Xmas gifts. May NOT get them all done in time !!
turned my mystery quilt into a Christmas quilt. Made 2 last Jan for gifts this year. have some runners and stuff. want to finish my app quilt I started 20 yrs ago. maybe this summer or i'll start in January to finish it.
I have at least one Christmas quilt in nearly every room. Made 9 for family gifts this year. Finally cut out the Jenny Beyer Christmas kit I bought serveral years ago at her shop. Hope to finish it this year or maybe next year!
I've made four wall hangings, one table runner, and one bed sized Christmas quilt with another waiting to be quilting and a sleighful of Christmas fabric needing to be stitched. Christmas fabric is one of my weaknesses. There, I said it.
OK, so if I put one on every bed and a couple of throws and make some to gift I should be able to keep going for a while. :-). Now to pick some flannel for those snowmen.....
You can't have too many Christmas quilts! I have made several as gifts & have 3 for myself. I am always looking for new patterns for Christmas quilts. I especially like making the appliquéd ones.
I have yet to make a Christmas themed quilt big enough to wrap up in or put on a bed but I have made numerous wall hangings with a Christmas theme. A Christmas themed quilt is definitely on my bucket list. I just haven't decided what I want to make yet. Unlike many, my Christmas themed fabric stash is very sparse but I do have a lot of greens and a smattering of reds.

I have limited storage space, am not into "cutesy", don't have kids and refuse to buy seasonal fabrics. It is hard enough to get people to not put a quilt in the closet for fear of messing it up. One Christmas, or any holiday quilt is too much for me. Same goes for holiday hand towels, pot holders, etc.
I guess I'm different. I admire them, but I really have just one quilt and a couple of Christmas throws. I get them out with the Christmas decorations and put them away at the end. Because of that, I'd rather not focus on making them--as they have limited usage.
And I'm not very tempted by all the table runners, etc. They are gorgeous, but I've found that I'm constantly using my table and a runner is inconvenient! |
15 years ago I made a red and white double Irish chain which I handquilted with green thread in tree and snowflake designs I created. I loved that quilt and used it every year in December and January. Somewhere along the line I either sold or lost or misplaced that quilt and I've been lost without it ever since. Lost my heart for making another Christmas quilt. Maybe "someday" I'll remake that one.

I have a rag Snowman quilt thats reverse the front of him has his face coal eyes nose and mouth the carrot and he has a christmas vest with buttons when you turn him around all you see is his shape and the back of the vest. 12 hours to cut out all the blocks three wks of constantly sewing after work and three days to do the ragging. Fits a twin bed. After all that investment he has never been off my couch I use him year round. Have a pattern to do a tree and Santa the same way. This is also the 2nd quilt I ever made. So very proud of him. 1st quilt was just a block quilt plain with 2 fabrics that I bought at a yard sale for 2.00 that someone had already cut the squares and lost interest in the quilt. My SIL made the same quilt but did it as a wall hanging using browns material for the vest and football buttons for his buttons on the vest. She does put hers away.

I haven't made a Christmas quilt W/Christmas fabrics. I do want to as I have lots of Christmas fabrics. Just always make a different quilt.
I do have lots of quilts stored because I just keep making them. My family has several each. |
I love christmas quilts and have four done and am working on two more. Halloween quilts in my house are out of control. Every year I see a new and adorable pattern and have to make it. My family loves curling up under quilts so they all get used. Happy quilts are fun to make and like old friends when you pull them out each year.

I have never made a Christmas quilt and actually I do not plan on making one - they are gorgeous, but for two weeks, I'd rather have one to keep out 365 - I am, however, doing a cross stitch Christmas quilt (42x42) and have been working on it for four years now, at least; I am probably 1/2 done and have so many stains of Heaven only knows what they are. I am totally depending on my stain catcher to take care of that for me when I am all done. It was a gift and the only time I work on it is during Christmas when my quilt sewing is put away (Christmas tree goes there) or when I am on an airplane and have to keep my mind on something other than crashing or (like one stewardess told me once) poking my eye out with a needle. Heck, the only time I'd poke my eye out is if we were crashing, so why take my enjoyment away from me. That's what I told her. TO NO AVAIL! Worst trip I ever took, ever.
So that's my story on Christmas quilts. Happy Thanksgiving! Edie |
Christmas quilts are my favorites. Since I started quilting 4 years ago, I have made dozens. In fact, my first two quilts were Christmas quilts. I do not have any for myself. I give them to my children and my grandchildren. I think that each of my daughter's three foster children have at lest 2 or 3 Christmas quilts. By next year, everyone should be able to have a different Christmas quilt on their beds each week from Thanksgiving through Christmas. This weekend, I finished quilting a "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" quilt and I have at least 4 Christmas quilts at the LAQ.
I have over 20!! Plus the ones I've gin away; all sizes and I have them all over the house for the Christmas season. For some reason, I just like making Christmas quilts.
I love Christmas, but for some reason I am not at all interested in Christmas quilts. I haven't made any, don't have any plans to.
I made a tree skirt, and ever year I buy Christmas fabrics when they go on clearance and sew simple reusable draw-string gift bags. And every once in awhile I'll make some ornaments or a stocking or two. But that's it. No wall hangings, no quilts. They just don't appeal to me. I think other people's quilts are cute, but making one for myself...nah. |
I like to make Christmas quilts and wall hangings to give as gifts. I figure if the recipient doesn't care for them they only have to have them out for the holidays. No pressure.
I have had a Christmas Quilt about half done for 3 yrs. Hopefully I can get it done in time for Christmas next year!
Last year I took a tablecloth with Poinsettas on it andtied it and put it in the grab bag. Our youngest daughter got it. She was thrilled beyond words. Now I wish I had I back! It was at least an answer to a C. t.cloth!! M. |
I have a wonderful Christmas sampler quilt that I won at my local Quilt Guild many years ago, and I still find something new every year when I bring it out. I make lots of Christmas wall hangings, some I keep, some I give away and some I sell at a craft fair; but I still have two Christmas quilt tops that need to be quilted and every year I say that I'm going to finish them, but so far they are still on my Roundtoit List. Maybe next year.
Count me in for having a bunch! I've made quilts and related quilted items in different colorways, as well as handwork items like redwork snowmen. And I have quite a few Christmas-y wallhangings. I don't put them all out at the same time!
I've not made a Christmas quilt, I just have never been into decorating for the holidays. I did it for the kids when they were home but now they have their own homes and decorations. None of them have wanted holiday quilts when asked. They all preferred something for year round.
I have been thinking lately of making a holiday quilt. Kinda like an Eye Spy with fabric from all the different holidays in one quilt. Then it could stay out all year! Right now I have Christmas, Easter, St. Patrick's Day and Thanksgiving.. oh and Valentines. I'll see how many holidays I can find fabric for to see if I can actually pull this off. Hmmm... presidents' day anyone? Smiles and hugsssss.... |
I have a christmas wall hanging I made and a table runner for coffee table I bought. I don't have a xmas quilt. I made a couple of them and gave to daughter and granddaughter. Next Christmas quilt is for me.

I don't have any Christmas quilts...yet. Just ones for year-round. :)

It is appropriate to celebrate the birth of Jesus all year long. You can use your Christmas quilts any time you choose to do so. froggyintexas

I am slowly getting quilts for each of the different holidays. Christmas is a special one here, and I want wall hangings, quilts, table toppers, runners, tree skirt, etc. etc. etc. lol
