It's your home and your space. As long as you walk in and love it, then that's what counts. Enjoy your work!!!!

DeeBooper 03-13-2011 03:48 AM

My mom has about 30 quilts hanging on racks in her bedroom and they look really nice...that is unless you ask my father. He constantly asks her when she's going to get rid of them and then the fighting begins...LOL

Vat 03-13-2011 04:22 AM

I think it's a matter of taste. It's your home.

justlooking 03-13-2011 04:30 AM

There is no such thing as too many, it's all a matter of your opinion. What you like!

I agree with the well spoken words.

You can never have too many quilts. If you like them, enjoy looking at them and they make you happy, add as many as you can fit in your home!

Sounds like you were describing my house. My friends who visit say it looks like a quilt retreat. LOL. I have them on beds, on walls, on racks, on wall display, in my china hutch, every where. Never too many.

Melrose 03-13-2011 05:16 AM

Never can have too many

Here is my answer to too much of anything: IT IS MY HOUE; I LIVE IN IT; I WILL PUT OUT OR UP, ANYTHING THAT I WANT TO LOOK AT; APPRECIATE; REMEMBER, ETC. Do as you wish and remember the tale of the father, son and donkey. Going to market they were all walking; first person to go past told the child he should be riding - too young to walk that far. Second person along shamed the boy and said the father should be riding - he was older and couldn't walk as well. Third person came along and told them both they should be carrying the donkey. When they arrived in town; everyone laughed to see them carrying a donkey when they could have both ridden it in.

I guess all my relatives are afraid of me. LOL No one ever says anything about how many quilts I have out. The grands and great grands love to drag them around and snuggle with them.

Jill 03-13-2011 05:55 AM

The way I look at it, until I run out of space and therefore using them to line the driveway, I'll display as many as I want. I love looking at my quilts and the memories attached with each one of them. Everyone of them has a story to tell. Perhaps your relative is jealous?

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter 03-13-2011 06:01 AM

Look anyone who doesn't like your decor right in the eye and say, "BITE ME."

Homemother 03-13-2011 06:03 AM

I feel your disappointment and pain. I have a sister who believes she should grace everyone with her opinion, unsolicited or not, and that they should listen to her and they are dirt if they don't. Good thing she doesn't visit!

Homemother 03-13-2011 06:06 AM

Diane - this is the bomb! Doesn't this describe people to a T? Let opinions fly and do what you want and need to do!!!

Afraid? Never. They appreciate your quilts. They will remember Grandma's quilts even when they are old, and maybe be quilters themselves!

NancyMaria 03-13-2011 06:46 AM

One can never have too many quilts displayed. I believe that quilts make a house a home.

I think her comment was rude! She doesn't live there, you do. Make yourself happy! BTW, I wouldn't make a quilt for this relative if I were you.

quilter41 03-13-2011 06:58 AM

I guess it's whatever you like. My DH doesn't like them out of the bedroom so I keep mine in a glass front antique cabinet in the familyroom.

luvstoquilt 03-13-2011 07:11 AM

It is your house! If you like it that is the way it should be! Tell your relative to keep hers the way she likes it and you will do likewise. Personally, I would love to look at your quilts!

Janet Espeleta 03-13-2011 07:20 AM

Gosh, your relative would have a fit if she came in to my houe as I even display quilts in the bathroom! LOL I live in central MO where a lot of the older women believe that a quilt is only to be used on beds. I just told them that my wallhangings are my "fine art" and that by hanging them on the wall, folding them over benches, etc. I can actually enjoy them. After all, how much time does one actually spend in their bedrooms awake enough to enjoy that beautiful appliqued quilt that is on their bed?

Flo Pierce 03-13-2011 07:27 AM

A quilt ladder. How neat and what a great idea. I've decided
'that in my old age it is time for me to stop putting in drawers
and in cupboards. What I want to enjoy is out where we can all
enjoy it. Especially me.

steelecg 03-13-2011 07:31 AM

Can you have too many displayed?? I think not

redeagle 03-13-2011 07:40 AM

And then there is my DH who displays all his dead animals on the walls--shoulder mounts, skulls, horns, etc. Thinking about hanging some of my quilts from the horns!LOL

quilter1943 03-13-2011 07:41 AM

Exactly! I have them all over - porch, living room, dining room, hanging, over couches, on a quilt rack, in bedrooms, I just love them - old ones and ones I've made. I did put away some of the valuable ones because our house is on the market and didn't want them to disappear.

Life is too short to worry about what other people think. Time for us to please ourselves.

Riversong 03-13-2011 08:16 AM

We very seldom have visitors at our home aside from family. They know its my "thing" and if they think its weird they havent said so. I switch them around real often.I am at a place in my life where I live in surroundings that make ME comfy. Its my home,my space, and if people dont like it they know which door they came in.LOL!

jad1044 03-13-2011 08:18 AM

PLUS - IT DOES THE QUILTS GOOD TO GET SOME AIR - NOT GOOD TO BE ALL BUNDLED UP IN A CLOSET ALL THE TIME EITHER!

grandjan 03-13-2011 08:41 AM

Don't let a thoughtless (and tactless) remark discourage you from displaying your beautiful quilts where you can enjoy them on a daily basis. I love to visit my friends' homes because they are all so different from mine and yet a terrific reflection of who they are. Some are modern, some traditional, some cluttered, some tidy--but all wonderful and warm and welcoming. I'm sure your home is equally lovely and reflects the kind of person you are. Most people love to look at quilts. If your relative doesn't, that's her misfortune.

llcathey 03-13-2011 09:24 AM

wonder what she collect's
I live in a MTH and we move around but I have quilts over chairs, couch,on the bed, everywhere I love showing them off

jlm5419 03-13-2011 09:49 AM

I personally think that after we spend as much time on something as we do on quilts, it is only natural that we want to enjoy them for a long time. We work hard to make them pretty, so why not see them?

ChildoftheUniverse 03-13-2011 09:55 AM

Too many quilts? Does not compute! The more the merrier I say...
