I restacked my fabrics this week.

I thought I was going to be so smart and put some of the things in plastic totes. I bought about ten of them. Put fabric in them. My shelves still seem as full as before.

There are always those fabrics that could go into any of several categories. And those that are truly odd and don't go with much of anything. And those that are in the "what was I thinking" category." And those crappy ones that came with something else.

I have cut WAY back (I think) on my fabric buying. I've even been able to go in a fabric store and leave without buying a THING.

I feel overwhelmed.

(I know I'm blessed to have been able to acquire this - but golly, I'm not sure if I like the label FABRIHOLIC)

So what is really weird - I hate to cut into large pieces of fabric. I have so much fun trying to create things from scraps.

I know what you mean and I know exactly how your feel. I have several tons of fabric. I try to save the larger pieces for backs of quilts. I was disappointed with one of my quilts this summer. There was nothing left from the backing to add to my scrap stash, only thin strips which I used to tie my tomato plants. I, too, am trying not to buy fabric!

I can solve that problem for you! Send the bigger pieces to me, I'll cut them up and send you back all the scraps.

I kind of get how you feel, the shopping is kind of compulsive. I sure don't like the looks of my sewing room with the shelves and crates

A large part of my stash is in an old chest of drawers that came out of my grandmothers house. I need to empty it into plastic totes so I can refinish it. We are going to be using it for (shock) of all things clothes, once we move next year. There are some bookcases up there that we were given by a friend who was redoing her house that will hold my stash. So I will have to rearrange everything in the near future. I dread it because I have been given several big black trash bags of fabric over the years and I don't want to get rid of it but am dreading having to pack it up. I keep lots of snippets of fabric because I do lots of applique, and you never know just when this or that little piece will come in handy.

I know; pass the cheese, cause I already have the whine!

Here's what you can do with the ones you put in the "what was I thinking" pile. Make some small quilts for www.quiltsforkids.org

They give small quilts to kids in the hospital. They have to be small enough not to tangle wheelchairs, etc. And if you have really large pieces that you do not like, I am sure they would appreciate the donation.

I think purging a little of what is overwhelming you will make you feel good, and bring good things back to you as well!

We are blessed to be able to afford fabric. It is a luxury. Instead of feeling overwhelmed, enjoy your treasures and make the quilts you love making. The finished quilts will be your legacy and probably provide a wonderful creative outlet for yourself. Just enjoy!
