Too much information?

My neighbor asked me to make and embroider a baby quilt for her newly adopted grandson. She wanted me to embroider his full name and birthdate on the quilt. She picked out fleece, and it will be double layers, about 45x49", so fairly big. I may have been watching too much bad news, but is it really a good idea to put that much information on a baby quilt or am I way over thinking this? He probably won't be carried around in it. Little guy was born July 4. Also, name in a corner? Facing in or to the outside? It will take less time to make the thing than I have spent thinking about it. Thanks for any feedback.

Welcome from Ontario, Canada. It is what she asked for so I would put it in a corner.

welcome from Long Island, New York.
It may only be used in the house, a floor quilt or something similar.
I'd put it in the corner, and not worry about it. She may be
thinking of an heirloom.

For relatives, I put name, date of birth and parents name on baby quilts. It's more of a heritage/ancestry thing, than anything else. I always use the same welcoming phrase for the baby (relative or not) "May God Bless you with Love your whole life through."

Welcome from Northern Indiana. Adopting a child is a wonderful thing.

Welcome from California. I would just do it the way she asked, as I wouldn't think that she would be thinking that the quilt would be washed a lot, more of a memory/keepsake quilt. I understand putting more thinking into a project than actual time doing it as sometimes I overthink things when I should just do it.

I understand your worry because I would do how she asked. It may just be a keep sake to keep at home.

I gotta tell you; I have always told my dd's not to put their kids names
on ANYTHING. I hear your concern and if it were me, I'd talk to her. I
personally know of a young girl that was lured and well, we won't "go there",
but it all had to do with her having her name on something that the guy saw.
Everyone else may be right with their answers and I may be a worry wart.
Do you want to find out the hard way?
(sorry...I always told my kids that too. I think your smart to be concerned.)

I make many baby quilts as gifts, almost always the parents or relative requesting the quilt want the full name, birth weight & length & parents names on the label. Since the quilts are mostly used in the home or if out in public wrapped around the baby so unlikely the label could be read by a stranger passing by I feel it is ok. I put the label on the back of the quilt.
We have an adopted grandson, the most special precious child ever, plus he was born on my birthday!

Welcome to the QB... While it is sad our minds are conscious of the possibility of terrible things, I'm sure your neighbor is wanting a lasting momento for the baby.
