I also would like to see a photo. You are NOT the first to make this mistake and I bet you, you won't be the last to make this mistake either.

In my grand wisdom had measured the top and decided that I needed to trim some off of both sides of the back. Stupid, stupid, stupid. When it came to quilting it, I realized what I had done was way wrong and had to add one strip on one side back onto the backing. Some days, you just shouldn't even try to think that you know what you are doing.

Glad you found enough.. I will probably get corrected on this but I am terrible at math also. The way I measure for binding is... measure the length x 2, the width x 2, add these together, example quilt top 74 x 90 = 148 +180= 320 inches. then measure the length of the fabric you are using for binding (usually WOF so say 43") then I start multiply whatever amount of strips I think it will take, I usually start with 7, so 7x 43= 301, not enough so then I multiply by one more number 8x43=344" and so on and so on. You want to allow enough for when you turn the corner. That is how I figure it. I'm sure there may be a easier way, but this works for me. Hope it helps out. Also you might want to check out Bonnie Hunters web site quiltville.com under hints and tips, she probably has a real simple way to measure for binding.

Happy endings are so wonderful. Glad you managed to find enough to finish it. Can you post a pic?

If you have a smart phone, go to the apps and get the Robert Kaufman free app. It will allow you to figure binding. I use it all the time.

Where there is a will, there is always a way. Glad you found some, have found myself in that predicament many times. Happy Quilting.

I'm finishing up a similar size quilt right now. Just started sewing on the binding, but I am going to machine sew it. It takes me forever to handsew the binding. I think I will use a blanket stitch (machine) on this one.
