Well after saving, thinking, dwelling, obsessing, dreaming and coveting I finally took the plunge this weekend and put down a deposit on a Longarm. I am getting the 26" Innova with a 10 ft frame. Couldn't go any bigger on the frame in my house. I can quilt up to a 96" wide quilt on it with 108" backing. Figured I'd never really do anything bigger then that anyway for myself and if I ever get good enough to quilt for others it will have to be queen size or less. I am getting my dealership's demo model which saved me a few thousand and it will still have the full warrantee. I am excited and scared at the same time. Now I have to get the room dedicated to it ready by removing everything in it! Lucky for me there isn't too much in it right now, just a bed and a dresser, our window a/c unit and a big rubbermade tote. It will be about 6 to 8 weeks because my dealer can't give up the demo until they get the replacement machine.

Congrats on getting the Innova. I got mine in December - haven't practiced on it as much as I would like, but I love the machine. Be sure to join the 2 yahoo groups devoted to the Innova. There is lots of practical information there, and the members of both are both very supportive and quick to answer questions.

You're going to love your machine. I got an Innova 26 late last winter. I had never used a longarm before, so it was a whole new world. Not without it's frustrations, but once you are comfortable with the machine, it's fun.

Ritzquilts 05-25-2010 06:22 AM

Congrates...Had a friend take online quilting courses, now she does just wonderful stuff

Crabby Patty 05-25-2010 06:37 AM

I got my longarm quiolting machine about 4 years ago. You are going to have a ball. I found that what it takes is practice, practice, practice. Good Luck

Congratulations!

quiltinggolfer 05-25-2010 08:01 AM

Hip Hip Horray!!! You will absolutley love it. I got my 26" Innova last September and my baby works like a dream come true. Mine is on a 14' frame but I just go lucky to a little more room. Do you read the posts on the Innova Yahoo site? They have some really great suggestions for cheap additions and a great site for help. I found out how to use velco and no pinning... yah!

cassiemae 05-25-2010 08:16 AM

Gooooody for you lucky lady. I am sure you will do good on it just enjoy every minute of it.

Keep quilting

cassiemae :-)

Congrats!!! You'll love it.
I got mine (APQS) in Feb and just love longarming. One thing I was told is practice practice practice. I have started doing Project Warmth Quilts (which are charity quilts that are guild puts together) and that's what I practice with. It's wonderful!!!
Hope the waiting time flies by for you, have fun....

Long-arm? I think that's such a funny name!

Ok, so how do you go about figuring out which kind to get? I took my first lesson at the LQS last night on their long-arm. It's computerized but I don't think all long-arms are computerized, are they? I had so much fun I'm going back on Sunday to quilt a "real" top instead of a practice one! Although if I put a cute border and binding on my practice one it'd be a pretty nice throw!

zz-pd 05-26-2010 09:32 AM

Congratulations on your new toy, I hope you get it sooner than that. God bless. Penny

The advice I was given was try them all or at least the ones you are interested in. For instance where I live their is a gammill rep, (but my mother already has one so new how it felt and was), A-1 rep and a APQS rep, and I set up an appointment to "test drive" and learn about each of them. Then made the choice from that point. I would recommend if possible test driving each one as close together as possible so you remember what you liked or didn't like about each one. Also, No the computerized can be like an addition, most of them you can purchase without the computerized part but with the availability to add on at a later time.( saves I think about 10000. - 15000)
Hope that helps.
I love my APQS it has the quilt glide which makes it super smooth even in small intricate meandering.

PJL 05-26-2010 10:05 AM

Thanks, that's exactly what I was wondering about.
I'm going to start looking around in my area. I don't have a room big enough in my current house, but just in case, someday, you know :-)
