I have made several batik tops and have used both batiks and cottons for the backings. My longarm quilter expressed concern with the batik backing, said she had problems in the past with batik as the backing, but the ones she has done for me turned out great. I personally prefer flannel backs for all my quilts, it just makes them so cozy.
My LQS has a deal on the first Saturday of every month - bring in a completed top, receive 30% off any type backing fabric. |
Barb MO......Where do you get your RocLon muslin? I used to buy this at Joann's and went to replace some this last week. They no longer carry it. I love it! Where can I get more? PLEASE!!!!

Our local Walmart carries Roc-lon. I am just south of Chicago.

I would use regular cotton on the back myself because FMQ can be a problem with 2 layers of batik for me.

Our local Hobby Lobby carries RonLoc muslin. It is a nice fabric. Haven't used it for backing yet since I usually use flannel. Have used for other things, curtain lining.

I've used regular cotton quilting fabric (extra wide) on the back of my batik quilts. Never had any problem.

I use whatever I have in the closet. I have used sheets, flannel, cotton, silk, there is NO wrong way but your way.

Thanks Barb MO...I'll look that up. I just need something I can handle and the wrinkly stuff is impossible.....plus, it usually is stiff and not at all soft.....200 count sounds pretty good!
