Does anyone know of a free pattern to make a tortilla warmer for the microwave? I saw one that was round and opened somewhat like a pita pocket. I would really be interested in making this as my family is a huge fan of Mexican food. Thanks!

I am making one that is round and will have flaps that open up on the top. The bottom and the flaps will have batting so it can be warmed. I heard about the one's that open up like a pita pocket but I thought it would be to hard to put in and take out. This way you can open the top and take them out one at a time.

I used a large dinner plate for the pattern, making sure it was an 1" bigger that the tortilla size I was going to use. I created 5 petal shaped flaps that over lapped at the sides and the middle. Everthing is padded. Use a a 1/4" seam allowance and voila, a tortilla warmer.

OK you had me until the 5 petals  Could you please give some more details ? How big are the petals ? Maybe post a picture ?

I don't have a camera. The top is just flaps. I divided the plate into 4 equal parts, added one more of the same size. You now have 5 equal flaps. I didn't like the pie shape and I also wanted it to over lap in the middle so I added about an inch to each piece and rounded them at the ends to give it a more pleasing shape.

Cut 10 petals and five pieces of thin batting. Sandwich the batting between the wrong sides of the fabric, sew 1/4", turn to right side. You may need to clip the seams. You may also need to step the seams.

Cut 2 bottoms and one piece of thin batting. Sandwich batting between the right sides of the fabric, sew 1/4 inch. You should have a raw edge and both right sides out.

Attach the petals evenly around the bottom using a scant 1/4 inch sew around the raw edge. Bind raw edges.

I hope this helps.

Would you post a picture of your finished warmer so we can visualize what you are trying to tell us?
