Here's the deal. I am trying to finish up UFO's I had these blocks I did a while back. So got this far and am at a stand still.(yes I got help with the inner border) :-)
My idea was to finish it off with a scalloped border with purple binding with more applique in the border. I have spent 3 whole days trying to figure this out. Its just not looking right. Haven't been able to figure out what to applique in the border... got as far as thinking about using the center flower on the block but was stumped on how to tie them together. Tried different kinds of leaves, a vine type thing, tried different flower based on the bigger part of the block. Now the width of the border is looking wrong. Have I just been looking at it too long? Should I do a straight border and forget the scallop ? Should I do the scallop and forget the applique? ACK !!!!! I am finishing up the UFO's I have and I am NEVER doing a quilt again unless I have it all planned out. I have so many of these it's insane! |
The scalloped borders would be pretty.

The scalloped border, bound in the purple, with a design quilted in the border. Maybe a celtic knot. It is going to be gorgeous. Hang in there.
|
What a beautiful quilt....I think a vine of green with leaves like in the center blocks. I like the center flower....maybe a little larger. I would find a photo of a border I liked and adapt to this quilt. Just thoughts.

I did this once with a quilt top that took me six years to figure out what was wrong , the last border was the wrong color and made the quilt go flat in my minds eye. That is what I finally took off and changed. Then finishing the quilt went off like a dream!
My suggestion is to find a floral print with the colors that are in the middle blocks and border it with that. The scallops could still be used and would be a beautiful ending. |
You mean I am supposed to have a plan???
Love the quilt so far. |
I think Eleanor Burns of Quilt IN A Day has scallops you put on a straight border. applique style ones.
|
I love your work and I agree a scallop border would be a nice finish
|
I like the scallop border and bind in purple. Sets it off nicely. Beautiful quilt.
|
You know this has just become to overwhelming for you, send it to my house and the problem will be solved! ;)
|
I was wondering if the purple binding on the scallop is what is not looking right to you. I love purple, but maybe it seems to much contrast to you against so much white. Have you tried the green or the lavender? I was also wondering if you had tried more than one size flower appliqué? Mostly medium with a sprinkling of larger and smaller? It is beautiful and I love your colors!

i always like scallops :)
|
I think the scalloped border would look beautiful. Then let some wonderful quilting fill that area instead of applique. Just my opinion....

I would do the scallop but I would quilt a design in purple and green thread in the border. Just me.
|
If your up to it, I really like the scallop edge! It is nice and feminine, like the applique in the center.
peace :D |
I like the scallops with the purple binding. Use the wide white border for a special quilting design.
|
This would be perfect!

So it seems the scalloped borders wins. I thought maybe the border was too small. So I am thinking no applique and quilted.
The purple that is up there is not the purple that will be used for the binding I just had that handy. It will be the purple that is in the diamonds. I have small amounts of the green I have very small bits of the light and medium purple . I did try different sizes on the flowers. Now I need to find quilting pattern for the border. I have one for the plain blocks. This quilt is going to be hand quilted so I know I can follow lines. lol I really wish I could afford to send it off for long arm quilting.. Charismah has shown some gorgeous work on the board. Thanks everyone for the help and encouragement. |
prairie points would be pretty too.
|
Oh my...This is so beautiful!! I also liked the scallop idea..Post when finished!!
|
whatever you do it will be awesome...hang in there.
|
I also think it a gorgeous quilt!

If you do a search - I think Eddie did a tutorial on scallops.

A diamond border!! in purple would be the icing on this quilt !!
|
What a lovely quilt. I think I would do some applique but not all the way around the quilt ...just around two corners that are opposite each other using the green that is in the quilt as the vine and leaves and some of the colors that are in the blocks as flowers. I like the design of the center flower so might make several of those in different sizes and use them in the two applique corners. Can't wait to see the final piece.

scallops and purple binding,,,,,, it doesnt need any more than that! BEAUTIFUL!
|
The large qhite border with purple binding on the scallops will look very nice with some feathers quilted in it following the scallops. Another idea is,,,swags. Have you thought about doing some swags along the white and then match the swags loops with the scallops bound in purple?

You could applique some vines and leaves at each corner that meander towards the middle of the border , they wouldn't have to touch.
|
I vote for scallops, but maybe bind with a lighter shade of the purple. Since there is so much white between the blocks, I would think you could leave the border white as well. In MHO it would be fresh and simple. Let the inner part of the quilt shine. Beautiful quilt by the way.

I like the borders and they bring out the color. Just finish it and then set back and enjoy it. Do not stress yourself. Life is too short.

I think a shades of green leaves vine with shades of purple flowers would look nice. ...with thin green stems and buds too...
