My ferrets decided they'd rather have my book bag than me, so I'll be needing a new one for the fall semester. I was thinking about making some sort of quilted tote bag. However, I'm not that experienced with quilting.. especially not making tote bags. I made one once about 5 years ago, but for that I just folded a towel in half and sewed it (used it as a beach/pool bag). I was just wondering if anyone had any fairly simple, yet neat looking, tote bag patterns.

Here is the pattern I use for fast easy tote bags. I like it because there are no exposed seams and the bag is fully lined and it's so simple. It takes one yard of fabric and one hour to make.

Hey bellaboo ... That is one trick pattern! Easy as pie too. Thanks, I saved it.

I had the hardest time understanding how to tuck one side into the other. It would not register how to do that. I hope I'm not the only one that had a problem understanding how to do it. :? So with high hopes someone may need more info on how to tuck and where to tuck: Open the rectangle by separating the two sides by pulling them apart from each other then tuck the top part of the fabric down into the bottom part. Finagle it to fit and smooth it out. :D :D

Thanks for the ideas guys! I like both of them. I think I might try to do the one bella suggested, just because it seems a little easier... might have to try the other one another time. Now I just have to figure out what fabrics I want to use.
