Tour de Fabric

Is anyone else watching events on the online Tour de Fabric? I watched a You Tube video on using half rectangle triangles (HRTs) and it was really good. The instructor suggested making them oversized and then trimming which makes good sense to me. I have been intrigued with HRTs for a while but have not done anything serious (like make blocks) yet. Maybe now I will. I am looking forward to attending a few more workshops during this month.

I purchased templates for HRT quite some time ago, but have not gotten around to using them as of yet. I'll have to go lay them out to remind myself to find a scrappy pattern to use them for. Thanks for the reminder! Looking forward to working on something I haven't done before!

I'm doing a quilt now that uses half square rectangles. I struggled with them for a bit until one woman in my quilting bee said "I'd paper piece them". Snap! I made a paper piecing pattern and just used the fold the stitch method then trimmed. Super easy. I made 6 of them in no time at all.

Wow! That's how my cousin makes HST's. It sounded like a pain in the tush to me! She's an excellent quilter with perfect seams and points. I'm more on the looser side. I just try to find patterns that don't have many HST's.

I think I will ask her to show me how to do it.

I'm the same as you. I'm more about the color than making perfect points. I found the paper piecing easy and accurate.

There are many ways to accomplish the same result. Try many and find the one that works best for you. Just ONE of the many things I like about quilting.
