Is this a traditional pattern?
I found this lovely pattern (link below) in the appropriately named Quilt Lovely book by Jen Kingwell. The basic block looks extremely familiar and I was wondering if anyone could identify it. It's just a combination of rec-triangles and squares, but it forms a lovely pattern. It reminds me of some kaliedoscope patterns, maybe? Thanks for any help.

i don't know but someone will, it's pretty
|
I don't think so... I think it's her original design. I've never seen it before. It's beautiful, tho. And simply done with 4-patches and half rectangles.
|
I'd swear I've seen it in slightly different form.
|
Very Unusual. very nice.
|
I don't think so either. But I can tell you having dealt with those elongated triangles, that they are difficult to get perfect.
|
Oh! oh! oh! Would you believe that I just got this die last week:
http://www.accuquilt.com/shop/go-hal...rectangle.html Got a deal on it, but didn't know what I was going to do with it. Add squares that finish at 3" and you have the block. Thanks for posting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
On the bottom of that page, it says "Flutterby". I think that may be the name of the pattern. It does look like stylized butterflies.
|
it looks like a 16 patch with 4 triangle/rectangles in the outside corners instead of the 4 squares.
|
When I clicked on the link, it brought me to the picture and then I could scroll to the left and their was the same quilt in different colors. It was from: fatquartershop.blogspot.com. Caption read: 2015 Summer Book Club: Quilt Lovely by Jen Kingwell. Hope this helps. Nice quilt.

I also want to thank you for posting. I've never seen the design either but I followed the link to the blog and absolutely fell in love with another quilt in the book called "Glitter", also made with tri-recs. What a fabulous scrap buster it would be. Ugh, just what I need another quilt to add to the bucket list. LOL
Here is a direct link to the blog if anyone wants to go look. http://sewtakeahike.typepad.com/sewt...r-reviews.html |
I feel a book purchase in my future:) Thanks for sharing.

I wasn't familiar with Jen Kingwell, but a little poking around on Amazon revealed that she is also the author of the Gypsy Wife Quilt and quite a few other patterns and books. She makes wonderful scrappy quilts.

Jenny Doan has a tutorial on the flutterby quilt pattern.

I checked out the book from the library, so I know the pattern. I was just trying to remember where I'd seen it before so I asked you all. I would swear that it's in one of my circa 90's books. It's a secondary design on a kaliedoscope or something. I just can't find it.
Yes, her lovely patterns are just that, LOVELY. One thing is I'd probably use the tri-recs tool to do her long rectangles. She has a weird method that requires trimming a half inch from each side! Yikes. I'm glad I may have sold a few of her books to you all ;-). It's nice to (unintentionally) promote someone who does great work. |

There is an older pattern called Periwinkle Star that looks a little like it. Maybe that is what you were thinking of. It came to mind when I saw the quilt you posted. https://www.pinterest.com/pinkeeper/periwinkle-pattern
