Thanks so much, everyone. I'm definitely going to look into the quilting paper option. This afternoon I taped the fabric and design to a window so the light shined through enough that my son could trace it for me with a soft quilting pencil I had :)

I buy the cheap pads of newsprint from the dollar stores. they are usually 9x12 and if your printer won't take that size, they are easy to cut down with your ruler and a rotary cutter. Thats mainly what I use for my paper piecing patterns also.

This my suggestion, too. You can stack several pieces of paper under your design and sew without thread. Then just pin these to your quilt and sew away!

Whenever I had to enlarge a stencil that I have, I would scan and enlarge it on the computer then print it out. Then I would staple in corners over multi pieces of drafting tracing paper. Then you have created multiply copies of the pattern. Then I would carefully pin it in place where I wanted to stitch the design, rethread my Bernina and stitch the design using the dots created by stitching with out the thread.
