At the Long Beach International Quilt Show there was an entire exhibit of quilts made using this special pineapple ruler. There's also a book by Gyleen X. Fitzgerald; it's called Trash to Treasure. I watched a quick demo on the ruler and decided to buy it, although I didn't get the book. Took me quite awhile to figure out how the ruler worked, and I have to say it's sheer genius. My problem is that I can never get the blocks to come out to the right size!
Has anyone here used this ruler? Other than the obvious things (make sure your seam allowance is perfect, press carefully, blah-de-blah-de-blah) is there some other trick to this? I always seem to come up about a half inch short! I'm ready to just give up and paper piece the darned thing, but that would be SOOO much more time consuming! http://www.colourfulstitches.com/trashtotreasure.html |
Never heard of it. I use PP for my Pineapples and as long as I don't short cut my fabric, they come out fine.

Have not heard of the ruler. I saw all those Pineapple quilts at Long Beach as well. What day did you go?
I met up with 2Wheelwoman again this year as well as Bertadel and Shaverg on Friday. |
I didn't make it until Satirday because I had to work. I loved the show this year--lots more traditional quilts & hand quilting. Sorry I missed you!

Hi...my best guess without knowing more is your seam allowance is a bit too much. It is better to use slightly less than 1/4" seam than more than. The tool will keep you square and accurate. You can do the self check after rounds 2 and 4 by centering the tool on top of the center square (on the back of the block). If the horizonal and vertical lines are on...your good to go.
