I just bought a cheap one at Wal-Mart. It's worked just fine until lately, it's leaking. But I guess I got my money's worth.

I've been lucky enough to go to at least one retreat a year for the last dozen or so years, in addition to several sew-ins offered by the guild I belong to. I can't tell you how many of us - myself included - have had the Rowenta travel iron and had the handle break, rendering it useless. Having had two other Rowentas that were awful leakers, I'll never buy another, but that's a whole other topic!

I agree with other posters that you can buy a fairly inexpensive one at a big box store that won't be as large as the largest of the "regular" irons, it won't be as heavy and doesn't get quite as hot, but does quite a good job in this type of situation. Also the tip about putting something over the surface, or bringing your own ironing surface, whether to put on the table next to you or set up on a tray next to you, as room allows. You'll find several threads on making them if you look.

I have a Black and Decker Travel Pro that I bought 4 or 5 years ago. It has steam and gets hotter than any regular iron I have. It has been dropped more times than I care to admit and still works great. I think I paid around $20 for it and will buy another if this one quits.

I recently purchased a Steamfast SF717. It works great. It is about the same price from Amazon and Craftsy.

My Rowenta is my iron of choice. It is always in my quilting go kit. I also have the Hobbico Iron that Eleanor Burns used on her TV show (it heats up to 450) and does a great press.

My sewing buddy and I both love our Sunbeam travel iron. It heat up fast and is hot!!!! I really recommend it!

I have a Steamfast, it is a small class size iron, steam if you wish. I just use it dry, take spray bottle if needed. I purchased mine from Nancy's Notions, several places has it. Love it, several in my group owns it.

The best one have used is the Rowen DA 75 steam and press....has long HANDLE...AMazon has them for 36.00. Sharon Shaumber uses one....in fact after talking with her at a class, I bought several for relatives....they all love it. I keep mine plugged in at class next to me...just lay it on it side when not in use.....then pick up by the handle and dry press, or steam.

Same here. It is a great travel iron. I am actually on my second one. I never put water in it and also use a spray bottle. Target has some great little spray bottles in the cosmetic section. They're less than $1 and are a not convenient size. I use them at my ironing board at home.
