What is a good price to pay for a treadle, and where is a good
place to buy one.

we got one at a "junque" shoppe 30 years ago for about $65. I would say, wherever you can find one.

I paid $30 for mine...it was in kinda rough shape.

I kept looking on Craigslist. They were too pricey for me. I just purchased a Singer 99 yesterday. I discovered I can convert it into a crank machine by adding a handle. I purchased the machine for $80 and the crank will be around $20 w/ shipping. I also decided I didn't really want another piece of furniture. I can plug it in or disable the electrical if I want to crank. Good luck on your search. Machines in Phx area are running around $350 and up.

There's one on eBay I was looking at but it's already up to nearly 600.00, it's in prime condition so that makes a world of difference, it's still got another 5 hours to go.

It depends on what you want. prices vary alot in different locations. I look for them on Craig's List, Ebay (local pick up), garage sales and local thrift shops.

For machines that take some work to clean up, and cabinets that need some work I am willing to pay $20-40 for a run of the mill Singer...there were thousands of them made, they are not rare.

If you want something that has the decals left in good condition and a cabinet that doesn't need to be refinished, you will most likely pay more than $100.

The great thing is the old machines are very simple to work on and almost indistructible. So even if it looks bad, you more then likely can get it working again with a bit of elbow grease.

I am about 4/5 hours away from you (South Central KY) so maybe this will give you some idea what you are looking at. I talked to someone selling a vibrating shuttle Singer made mid to late 30's with manual and attachments. She said it was in good condition and was asking $125. I also saw a Singer Red Eye treadle today, if I remember correctly it was made in the 20's. I didn't ask the price but I do know that it works, ready to sew whatever you want. I also know of one that they were asking $65 for without a belt no attachments or manual if it is not sold - I believe it was rotary.

I found mine on Craigslist. It is a New Home all the decals are in excellent condition. It is in a Parlor Cabinet and works like a charm. All I had to do to it was polish the machine up a little , put on a new belt, and put liquid gold on the cabinet. I paid $125.00 for it. I thought that was a good deal for what I wanted,

I got my first one at a very large antique shop for $185. The cabinet is in great shape and the machine head still has all painting on it. It may sound high but I wanted one really badly.

My second one I bought from a local person who listed on CraigsList. I got cabinet and machine for $50. It really needed rescued!! I took the machine head out and it is with a repairman for cleaning and whatever it needs.

So depends what you want--a fixer upper or one in good condition. Have fun looking. Hope you find what you want.
