The thrift stores sell them for about 50 dollars...also check the used furniture stores...we have one that has new used and antique...they had 2 last week again about 50....there are A LOT OF THEM OUT THERE If you want a new one Janome has them for about 200
Now garage sale people have rusty ones falling apart and think they must be valuable 200 and up...so sad no buyers spread the word u want one you'll be surprised....it may not be gra m's but it won;t break the bank...the one in my avatar was 40 with a nice cabinet And remember people count more than stuff... they stay in your heart not inanimate objects.....I wish My brother were alive and I will take any extra sisters out there...not fun to be an orphan |
Thank you for posting these suggestions :D :D :D
I would love to have you for my sister!!!   I grew up with brothers, and I have always wanted a sister ((((HUGS)))) |
Auctions often have treadles for ridiculously low cost. A girlfriend let some go in cabinets for under $5.00! If I had known, I would have bought them even though I have no room for more.
|
The cheapest I've gotten a treadle is for 30 dollars, it wasn't in that good of shape.
Most people know that I like treadles, I have 6! |
I want a treadle.....one day....................

My Mom gave me my treadle. I can't remember without asking her, but I think she said it was my (Mother's brother-in-law) uncle's grandmother's. I could be wrong. I just remember smashing my fingers under the foot pedal as a kid when playing. Mom always kept her "regular" sewing machine on the top and her goodies in the drawers.
I buy up all the machines I run across...if I can afford it. It's become an obsession. I just recently got an old electric one in a cabinet. I think of it as an investment, as well. As much as I would hate to, I'm sure I could re-sell it for more money than we paid if we really got "in a bind". I think I could sell some of the others that I pick up and clean and get in good working order. After I get my sewing room all set up, I will know more about which of those I have picked up here and there that I would like to sell or keep. I'm an only child, so I know the lonely feeling. |

My treadle. Yeah, it needs some polishing. |
I refurbished 2 treadles. One was a "Free" machine. Brand that is. All was included and provided by the company once it was purchased. It was from the 1800s. Other machine is a Singer. Both work like a dream.

Buttercream.. The Singer photo reminds me of the machine my grandmother had when I was a little girl...60 years ago. I learned how to make clothes for my cats on Gram's machine. I didn't play dolls but I sure had well dressed cats when they would let me dress them up.
