Tri-recs tool?

Need a 45 degree ruler to make a cool quilt. Link to pattern...
https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/06...f?v=1621394955
I have a tri-recs templates. Question: Is the large template of tri-recs tool same as a 45 degdree a ruler?

Absolutely not!! A 45 degree angle is the same as a HST angle. Look at one of your rulers and you will see 3 lines--30 degree, 45 degrees and 60 degrees. If you cut a strip of fabric and then lay the 45 degree line on the cut edge, where the edge of the ruler lies across the fabric, is 45 degrees.

The angles in that tool (tri-rec) are approximately
skinny right triangle: 63.4, 26.6, and 90 degrees
the isoceles triangle:63.43, 53.13, 63.43 degrees
I rounded the degrees so those numbers are not 100% accurate.
There are a lot more decimals than i listed.

There is a kaleidoscope or spider web ruler that is an isoceles triangle and the angles in that one are
67.5 , 45, and 67.5 degrees. The " companion" triangle for that is 67.5, 22.5, and 90 degrees.
,

The angles in a half square triangle (and also a quarter square triangle) are 45, 45, and 90 degrees.

the equilateral triangle is 60, 60, and 60 degrees. The " companion" triangle to that is 30, 60, and 90 degrees.

One minor bit of clarification - the pattern that Julienm1 is interested in calls for a "45 degree triangle ruler". In bearisgray's (excellent!) explanation, that ruler is called "kaleidoscope or spider web ruler". Knowing the different terms used for the same thing will help you examine all your options if you go shopping for one.

I was unable to view the quilt on my phone.

I learned the hard way that these triangles are not interchangeable!

Platyhiker, thanks for the name of the ruler! I'm pretty sure I have one 'someplace'! That is a very pretty pattern Julienm1. Thanks for the link. I wonder how it would look as a super scrappy. (Can you tell I'm still trying to get rid of scraps!!)

Bear, it's a traditional kaleidoscope pattern.

They need your personal information so they can sell it. If you don't pay for a site or it's products, they are making money by selling your demographics.
