I use Sewers Aide for regular hand sewing thread, have used beeswax, soap, & dryer sheet ( when I had a dryer ).
My quilting thread is YLI Hand quilting thread, I love it !!
Threading needle with firstend & knot cut end at spool is how I do.

Jammin' Jane 04-14-2011 01:44 PM

Great tip! I'll have to try it! Thanks!

violetsfarm 04-14-2011 01:45 PM

I have never heard of that. Thanks for the tip.

brightstar_202 04-14-2011 02:16 PM

I use bees wax but thanks for the tip as now I will save money and do this trick. As far as I know I have never heard of this trick so I would have to say you are a rare one. In a good sense of the meaning...

Just curious, am I the only one that uses this technique??

I know it's supposed help, but I've not done it. Had one of the most impossible spools of thread last week, but I hated getting up from my chair to go get it. Was binding at the time.

The acrylic piece around my machine becomes very static-y and I use dryer sheets to keep the static down and threads from releasing from it! Love those things!

thanks for the tip...i thought it was my lack of sewing skills...know this puts a smile on my face:-)

kimg 04-14-2011 03:28 PM

Good tip.....THANKS!

kidhauler1948 04-14-2011 03:30 PM

I also was taught to cut thread and knot the same end, works pretty good.

Rose Bagwell 04-14-2011 03:42 PM

Thanks for the tip, first time I heard it.

northdakota 04-14-2011 03:54 PM

I am hand quilting right now, thanks for the tip

YES, I TOO USE THIS METHOD IT WORKS FOR ME!

Kelela 04-14-2011 04:09 PM

I have been hand quilting for about 15 years..off and on...I never heard about your tip of running needle and thread through dryer sheet first. Great tip...thanks much this will help when I am hand quilting Hawaiian style quilts. Kelela

GrannyHanaDa 04-14-2011 04:15 PM

Great tip, thanks.

craftysewing 04-14-2011 04:31 PM

Cool a dryer sheet! That is a great idea! Thanks for sharing.

granny3 04-14-2011 05:22 PM

I haven't, but I wil. Thank u

butterflies5518 04-14-2011 05:28 PM

what a handy tip - I use beeswax

quiltwiz 04-14-2011 05:28 PM

I also teach hand quilting and I have heard of this wonderful tip, but I recommend Thread Heaven to my students...in a small blue plastic box and lasts a lifetime. Just run your thread thru it and then fun your fingers down the thread. Does a wonderul job of preventing tangles...the thread repels itself...and I help the shop sell a great notion.

I'm a beekeeper as well as a quilter so I have beeswax on hand. That's what I learned from my Mom and grandmothers. I might try the dryer sheet though.

Dryer Sheets and Duck Tape.

thanks for a good tip

Needlegrammy 04-14-2011 07:34 PM

Thank you sew much for this tip.

Gramof6 04-14-2011 07:38 PM

I have done this for a few years now. Even when I am hand binding to the back of my quilt. It works well for me. One bounce sheet will last until I get a whole Q sz hand quilted.

Matilda 04-14-2011 08:29 PM

I had never heard of this before. I use bee's wax.

I was taught beeswax, but it was from more mature seasoned quilters. (Like that description)

I love Thread Heaven!

Paisleyc 04-14-2011 09:23 PM

Duck tape?

Paisleyc 04-14-2011 09:25 PM

What is Thread Heaven?

Shirlrh 04-14-2011 09:27 PM

It is a thread conditioner and protectant. I think I ordered it from fabricdepot.com.

Paisleyc 04-14-2011 09:45 PM

Thanks Harry--I like the tips and will try a few. Learned something new.

Hi out there! yes, the dryer sheet works well, but I have switched to a product called "thread heaven" about 3.00 but it lasts forever. Watch for Jo-ann's 50% on their notion wall. little square container: cobalt blue

auntiehenno 04-14-2011 10:58 PM

wow--thank for the tip.

DMotyl 04-15-2011 04:35 AM

I think I read about the dryer sheets, but forgot. Thanks for the reminder as I have 3 quilts to sew bindings on. ;-)

Kyle's mem 04-15-2011 05:33 AM

thanks for the tip

Millstream Mom 04-15-2011 05:36 AM

I've heard of beeswax....can't locate any at our LQS, but I have LOADS of dryer sheets! I wasn't aware they served any other purpose than accidentally embellishing the back of one's sweater!

egagnon291 04-15-2011 05:37 AM

I always thread the needle before I cut it from the spool. Don't know why, but this always works for me.

nett2 04-15-2011 06:43 AM

How does duct tape work?

QuiltinDirksen 04-15-2011 02:42 PM

News to me after all these years! I'll try it tonight! Thanks.

butterflies5518 04-15-2011 05:25 PM

I'm curious too - duct tape, how???

Pattyjo7686 04-15-2011 07:23 PM
