Trip to Phoenix, AZ What Quilt Stores are a "Must visit"
 

Will be making a trip to Phoenix during the holidays. Will have some spare time to visit local quilt stores. Can you tell me which ones are the best. I know you have some really great quilters out there so there must be some really great quilt stores too. Thanks in advance. PS this is my first post with the new board. Hope it works the way it's supposed to.

Beside 35th ave and Northern there is a great shop on 59 ave and Northern called Mulqueens. There fabric is alot cheaper than other shops around $6.99 a yard.
There is also a shop around 98 th ave and Bell but only been there a couple of times and did not care for it.
Im not familier with Mesa or Tempe shops, too much traffic on that side of town.

Boy are you lucky! We have over 13 quilt shops here in Phoenix.

35th Ave Sew & Vac literally has the largest collection of quilting fabric in the whole state! They just moved around the corner to a larger store, though still at the NW corner of 35th Ave & Northern, now on the far western edge facing Northern Ave.

Quiltz is a nice shop. However, try to combine it with a visit to Patrick Lose's studio, which is across the street and carefully 'hidden' , where there is some really neat fabric and patterns, His website is: www.patricklose.com Please call ahead to see if his studio is open before going: 623-414-9464. They have all sorts of neat classes there, too. I would imagine they would loan you a sewing machine for a class if you asked.

Where you will be is near to 3 Dudes Quilting, which is just off I-10 and Elliot. The guys there have a map that includes only the some of local quilt shops. Know that this list does NOT include several other LQS's. For example, there is a Mulqueen's in that part of the Valley where you will be.

Wish you were going to be here at the end of January. That is when Quilting in the Desert will be ... and also our yearly Quilt, Sew, & Craft Expo.

The Expo is really big with free classes and demos of all types of machines and goodies. My quilt guild traditionally has a booth there.

There's also a 35th Ave store at Ray & Rural in Chandler, and a Mulqueens at Val Vista and Main/Apache in Mesa. If you journey to the east valley, there is Quilters Oasis at Crismon & Baseline in east Mesa, and if you enjoy weird stuff, there is SAS Fabrics, one at Apache & McClintock in Tempe, one at Indian School & 12th St in Phoenix, and one on 19th Ave between Dunap & Peoria.

If you like florals, there is A Cabbage Rose, a relatively new quilt shop on Dobson Rd. just north of Main.

Other good stores are Zoe's Trunk on the SW corner of Alma School and Eliot, The Cutting Edge Quiltworks, which recently moved to San Marcos Place in downtown Chandler, and the Quilter's Ranch on the SW corner of Warner and McClintock.
