Does any one know where I can find the pattern for a Triple wedding ring quilt? This quilt has 1 large center (40-48in)with 3 interlocking rings. then you do a lots of borders around it. My grand mother did one years ago and I always loved it but it is no longer in the family and I would love to make it for my son and daughter-in-law.

I have tried googleing it but no luck yet.

Thanks in advance,

Welcome to the board from Southern California!!!!
I have never made a wedding ring quilt and not sure if I have ever seen a triple one. Hopefully someone on here will be able to help you with finding a pattern.

I have been doing some searching for you and I'm almost ready to say that it may have been her own design! Do you happen to have a picture of it?

debfaye 08-19-2010 03:52 PM

No pictures, just remember it is 3 rings joined together the one on top representing god and 2 at the base representing husband and wife. all joined together. It was given to a young minester when he married. (Some 20 years ago); she did the borders round-robin style with a couple of other members of the church. I cannot remember their names.

Thanks for looking,

Where are our EQ7 experts? I bet they can come up with a pattern!! In the meanwhile I'll keep looking.

I just made a double wedding ring for my son and daughter in law. I'm going to fool around with some rings and see what I get.

Hi and welcome from the sunny state of Florida!!

check out http://www.quiltworx.com Especially the Wedding Star and the Diamond Wedding Ring patterns. Are those anything like what you are looking for?

I can't figure out how to get a "triple" wedding ring effect unless it's like a Celtic Knot. The Trinity Symbol could be described as a triple ring, also.

I believe it is a Christian Trinaty but with the rounded edges not the pointed ones. also it was made from small scrapy squares simaler to a double wedding ring.

So it just had the trinity symbols scattered all over it or a center medallion of just one? Never mind, I just re-read your original post. Definitely a medallion. It sounds like she just modified a Double Wedding Ring and figured out the intersections of the rings herself. Possibly it was just 3 large circles made up of slightly curved squares appliqued onto a sheet. No "melons" or curves to piece. That would be an easy pattern to draft on paper & would look smashing in a completed top with the right color placement to cause the "linking" of the rings.

There is a method of making a wedding ring quilt that actually has you make the rings separate and interlock them before stitching down on a background. I can't think of the name of it right now, will do more checking.

this might help you, will keep looking!

That is one I was looking for for her!! Yes, debfaye, this should work for you.

If you can wait until Labor Day I think I have these directions out at my new home. (All my sewing stuff got moved already!)

How do they make the circles "smooth on the edges" so there is no needle turn? Sounds like they may be using preprinted interfacing (the QuiltSmart stuff) but then I wonder how they flatten the intersections. I would just leave out one of the colored squares myself or sew over it and remove it from the back side to reduce the bulk.

Duh, I found it further on. She does lift the ring up at the intersections and snips out part before appliqueing them down.

Thank you very Much! I just ordered it. I wonder how big the circles are? I will make a few, then figure out how to inlarge if nessessary.

Thanks again

dakotamaid 08-20-2010 02:59 PM

I think they are fairly large. Be sure and post a picture when done! :-D
