A True Friendship Star

I have been watching on the stars, as to what is the True Friendship Star... In what direction is the points to point toward? Some say Top triangle Points to the Right and then the next say it is pointing to the Left with the bottom Triangle pointing oposite direction. Which is it?

I Googled true friendship star quilt pattern and saw that there is more than one pattern. Some are the traditional four point "true" friendship star and some are 8 point stars around a middle square. The direction the star points is apparently a function of how you turn the star and that looks like it's a matter of your personal preference. If I were doing it, it would point left, but most seemed to turn right. It's your quilt. Do it your way. If the quilt police have an opinion, make them get a warrant. froggyintexas

NiichMom ... it seems to vary which way it points.

Froggy ... the 8 pointed one you mentioned, is probably what they call Double Friendship Star.

As I find any sorts of "Friendship" block patterns, I have been keeping them in a binder. There are several more Friendship Star patterns ........ some look like or are variations of the two that both of you have mentioned. And some have a totally different look.

Have fun with this one. A while ago, I did a scrappy small table runner for a gift (in her favorite colors) and pointed the stars different ways by twisting and turning the block. It was fun to throw caution to the wind. My friend was moving, so the only thing I did was make sure there was a light enough piece in each block so our little group's names could be signed. It turned out amazingly well.
