True lovers knot block - how big to make the pieces??

I'm making this quilt for my friends' wedding:

Here's the block (though I'm removing the outer ring since I'll just do sashing for my specific pattern variation, so it'll be the center square + 4 rings, not 5) :

How wide should the strips be??? In the pictures when you search "True Lovers Knot", they look 1" finished, but I can't tell. But in the first picture, it seems like they could be 1.5" finished. Any thoughts/experience on what would look good? I'd rather work with bigger pieces, but I want it to look right.

Its hard to say make up a block it 2.5" strips and one with 1.5" strips. This will give you a good idea of how big you want it to be. It also will determine the size of the quilt.

You can do them whatever width you want ... you would just proportion the strips, accordingly.

My preference would be narrower rather than wider, as I always like the detail that small gives.
... though that is mine and if you want wide, go for it.
You could even do them at 2" finished, if that is what you want.

I made a celtic knot once and used 2 1/2" squares. 1,890 of them to be exact. I loved it...when it was finished. LOL It was 5 colors of knots. Beautiful!

Lovely quilt. It seems to be double-bed size, which is about 54" wide. I'd suggest cutting 1-1/2" strips [ 1" finished] and 2-1/2" [2"fin] for the center square. This should give you a 10-1/2" block and with 2" sashing, 4 blocks will cover the top of the bed. Your sashing would then be cut 2-1/2".

If you prefer to make your quilt larger, then by all means cut the strips wider.
Cutting 2" strips should make a 15" block,
and 2.5" strips will make a 20"block.

Hope I have helped.

Yeah, that's what I thought it looked like in the picture.
