Hydrogen peroxide on a cotton ball will lift the blood out of your fabric. Nurses know!

I use a klutz glove....... the very first time I ever held a rotary cutter I cut straight through to my left index finger UGH! and I wasn't even quilting at the time I was using the fancy fleece ruler to make scarfs and it was a few years later until I started using it again and still today I have a little fear cutting with them even with the klutz glove on. hope you heal quickly

Knock on wood, I have NEVER cut myself with a rotary cutter. But the other day, I stuck myself with a straight pin and didn't notice anything. I picked up some pink batiks a few minutes later and I bleed all over one batiks. Tried sucking the blood off but it didn't come out. I am going to have to work around but it blends in with the pink batik !! Lucky me.

Hope your finger heals, I have never tried the gloves but have a half off coupon for Joann's so I am seriously thinking about them as I am a klutz. Be careful of the peroxide, it will not only take the blood out but I have had it take the color right out of the fabric.

I am leaning more and more to pre-cuts, not only for safety reasons, but because I can't stand for long periods of time and cutting out a quilt has become torture, not pleasure. And I do take breaks, but they get longer and the cutting time gets shorter. I do cut sitting down, but the angle is awkward.
As long as I know they are cut correctly (so far, I've found that RJR, Robert Kaufman, Moda are all good), and I find something I like (especially if it's on sale), I don't worry. Honey buns (1-1/4" strips; Kona Cotton and Bella) make great sashing, and jelly roll strips make great borders and binding. |

That is a true quilting friend, and my first thought would be if I got blood on the quilt. I think sometimes we forget that the rotary cutter is a very sharp razor like tool. I had a friend who forgot to close the blade on her rotary cutter, it fell off the table where she was cutting fabric, landing on her bare foot and had to go to the emergency room for stitches; and had to be off her feet for a short while. We tell our kids not to run with scissors, we need to remind ourselves to close the rotary cutter immediately after use. It pays to be cautious.
