I have a advertizment from the Grace Company
[ [email protected]] for the rotary blade sharpener and I was hoping if anyone has if they would share thier opinions. The cost is 40.00 and I would gladly pay if it means not having to buy so many replacement blades.

When this first came out I was hoping that someone who bought this would come back and give us a review :D:D:D

I have been watching, too!

I have one. I've read several posts about it here. It works better then I expected. I watched a demo at the Paducah quilt show and the vendor said to not wait until the blade was dull to sharpen it. Sharpening a dull blade is not the goal. I run the blade through the sharpener before I start cutting for a project. It's easy to use and safe. You don't have to take the blade out of the cutter. It will not take out nicks but keep a sharp edge on the blade. I haven't changed blades since I bought it months ago.

I think I saw that advertised in Nancy's Notions for less.

dakotamaid 07-17-2010 03:27 PM

I have one also, haven't used it much but what I have I like alot!

This makes good sense. Kitchen knives are easier to keep sharp if sharpened frequently rather than waiting until they're horribly dull. I'm seriously considering getting a sharpener for my rotary blades.

I just recently bought one, too. I tend to sharpen my rotary blade just before using it, kind of like chefs do with their knives. So far, I haven't sworn at a rotary blade skipping, so it must be working!

Maybe I'll have to invest in one of these. I'm going to have to research pricing. I've been wondering if the investment was worth it. Thanks for the information all.

FunkyMonkey 07-17-2010 06:47 PM

good to know!

IrishNY 07-17-2010 07:18 PM

You guys have me almost convinced to buy one but I need to know first - does it work with any rotary cutter? You don't need to have the TrueCut rotary cutter, right?

BellaBoo 07-17-2010 07:40 PM

I use the Olfa, Fiskar and Fons and Porter rotary cutter size 45 and 60. No problem. I have the small 28 size but haven't tried sharpening it yet. When I find it somewhere in my sewing room I will.

That is very cool looking! I wonder if my local store carries it... I will have to check next time I am out and about!!

I tried the sand paper one - and at first I thought it worked well and then tried it a few more times and I thought it was worthless....

I'm a gadget lover.. I might need to buy and hopefully love this gadget!

mlaceruby 07-18-2010 03:51 AM

Will have to check this one out.
the one I purchased at Joann's dosn't work very well it is an olfa or dritz can't remember which.

patricej 07-18-2010 04:08 AM

hmmmmm ... i've been less than impressed with mine. i assumed it was because i was doing something wrong but couldn't figure out what.

i know i need to practice holding the cutter correctly as i run it through.

i didn't consider that it might make more sense to maintain a sharp blade from the start. i was trying to sharpen blades that had already gone toooo-dull.

i think i'll try that with the new blade i just loaded.

IrishNY 07-18-2010 02:27 PM

OK, I just ordered mine. Can't wait to get it!

Where did you decide to purchase it from ? I did a yahoo search but only came up with one other place that sells it besides the grace company.

lab fairy 07-18-2010 10:00 PM

You can find one at Nancy's Notion's for $29.99.

Nancy's Notions has the lowest price i could find the day i went looking for the one i bought.

craftiladi 07-19-2010 08:49 AM

Thanks so much...headed over to nancys to order...oh and did I read you could use other blades in it?
thanks again.

patricej 07-19-2010 09:12 AM

i'm not 100% sure about martelli ... although i can't see why not ... but it will work with any other brand of cutter or blade, for sure.

i followed the suggestion to maintain a good blade vs. trying to bring a dull one back from the dead. it makes a huge difference, so thanks very much for that tip.

i also flipped the blade, sharpened the other side, and sprayed it with a shot of silicon. (some people use oil)

if i hadn't known better i'd have thought it was a brand new blade straight out of the package. :-)

IrishNY 07-19-2010 04:44 PM

I bought mine from ebay. Nancy's Notions is cheaper but they are out of stock until August 31 and I didn't want to wait that long.

DoxieMom 07-20-2010 05:41 AM

I ordered one on Amazon which should come sooner than from Nancy's Notions. Total cost with shipping just a few dollars more than Nancy's total cost.
