I have started making a "Trust Me Quilt" Does anyone know if it has to have uneven number of original blocks to start with to get the pinwheels to come out correctly?

patricej 06-25-2009 03:47 PM

i've never heard of a "Trust Me" quilt, so you couldn't trust ME to answer correctly.

A Trust Me Quilt is one where you sew squares together and put a border on them and then cut them apart with a template to make a windmill pattern

BellaBoo 06-25-2009 06:30 PM

This sounds very interesting. Where can I find the pattern?

It looks neat, but I can't find a pattern, just pictures. I tried google, any other suggestions ?

I've just looked at the link that Patrice posted regarding The "Trust Me Quilt". Over here on the Pond we call it "Square Dance".
Take a look at my Avatar, I made this at a workshop. I would love to make it bigger but just haven't got around to it.

I have made one. There is a book you can get called "Square Dance" by Martha Thompson.

They are fun to do.

Now I know it's other name 'Square Dance' I have made one too. I just didn't recognise the 'Trust Me' title. It's intrigueing, and not quite so easy to sew the squares once they have been cut, as they aren't then on the straight grain (not on a true bias either), and I thought it a touch wasteful in fabric too, but the finished effect is very nice.

BellaBoo 06-26-2009 06:42 AM

I was thinking why not make the template bigger? I guess I'll find out after the book arrives. :?

I too went and checked on the internet. I had seen these before, but never made one. Good luck with it and have fun!

I can't answer your question, but I love the pattern!!! Can't wait to see the pictures of yours :D :D :D

I'm just going on what our senior center quilt instructor is telling us.....evidently there is a pattern.....Woodland Quilts in Whitewater, WI did a class on this quilt. I'm going to try and get a copy of it and I'll post it.

patricej 06-26-2009 08:52 AM

please do share information about where members can get their own copies of the pattern, but remember that you can't post copies of the pattern itself.

BellaBoo 06-26-2009 12:05 PM

I found the book on Amazon. I haven't found the single pattern anywhere. I found where many shops have held classes on this quilt and the pattern was provided in the class. Apparently it was okay to print the single pattern for classes.

Interesting quilt pattern! Will keep my eyes open for the pattern.

is this a simple quilt made of specifically colored squares, then cut with it's template, then simply twisted? is this what i'm seeing? any waste? is there a way to lay out the original squares so that you end up with pinwheels that do a color thing? also, you have to start with a considerably larger quilt than you want to end up with. i love the possibilities.

BellaBoo 06-26-2009 12:42 PM

When the book arrives I'll post of the different possibilities if any.

bvpklp 06-26-2009 12:44 PM

Thanks for all your help. Nice to know the "other" name for this quilt is Square Dance and the name of the author! I am making mine larger than the pictures shown on Web Shots. I am using a 9" square and then a 7-1/2" template. On the pictures shown it does say it HAS to be an uneven number of original squares...Thanks again

bvpklp 06-26-2009 12:46 PM

You can make it with any number of colors or just two which turns out beautifully too! Make sure your original squares are not the same material as your borders or the pinwheel will get lost....

tuesy 06-26-2009 02:11 PM

Here's a place that has a few patterns that seem to do the same thing. Not for sure though, just looking as I'm interested in this pattern too.

what they're calling 'falls creek pinswheel", i have all cut out in reds and brown. dh cut the template for me, and i cut wherever we went. oh, well. another wip.

tuesy 06-26-2009 02:46 PM

After more searching (page 21 of google) I found one for free
http://www.silverlanequilting.com/pd...areDancePP.pdf

if you read down at the bottom of the PDF it says the book is out of print..but you can go to Martingale Pub. and buy the whole book (e book form) for $10.99

BellaBoo 06-26-2009 05:38 PM

That's a great find! I like the e book concept. Much cheaper than buying the bound version.

BellaBoo 07-02-2009 12:13 PM

The book Square Dance Revised Edition by Martha Thompson arrived! It is much more then I thought it would be. I really liked every pattern. There are many variations on the Square Dance method and one is very striking, it's called Kissing Links. I definitely want to make that one. :D
