trying to locate quilt shop
Quite some time ago quilters on the forum were discussing a quilt shop that had stacks and stacks and stacks of fabric bolts piled high even over their heads. discussion of what a safety hazard it was. Anyhow, I am trying to locate an out-of-date fabric and thought I would send them an email to see if they possibly have it. Can anyone remember the name and location of the shop? Thanks. Everyone here is so helpful.

One that comes to mind is M&L fabrics in Anaheim, California. Back many years when and M&L were alive (I can't remember their names but they were a husband/wife team) they had a huge store with piles and piles of fabric stacked so high that several times when I went I was afraid to walk down the aisles for fear of the stacks tipping over. Since M&L passed away their daughters took the store over and I believe it was around this same time that they were cited by the fire department as being a fire danger. The store closed for a short time and reopened much more organized. They still have stacks of fabric but they are on tables and are much more manageable. I try and make a trip their about once a quarter to see what's new. Some of their very old fabrics are at rock bottom prices, like $2.99/yard! Here's a link to their website http://mandlfabricsdiscountstore.com/

It's in Amish Country in Pennsylvania. I was there, but I don't remember which one it was. Someone will, though.

This would describe Sisters Quilt Shop in Chehalis, WA, but their fabric moves fast, so I doubt that you would find old fabric there.

the store in amish country you are thinking of is Obie's on route 23 in Goodville, PA...she doesn't sell online as far as i know, that's why the store is jammed full of fabric!

Thank you for your responses. I figured with that much fabric the chances were better that they might have what I am looking for. I'll give Obie's a call. Thanks Psumom for the contact info.

MaryJo's has also been described this way.

Treadle II in Bloomington IL is packed and claustrophobic.

Thanks birdsraps for this info....I'm needed more of M'Liss fabrics in Rose Bouquet and hopefully they have them. It came in like 8 colors....keeping my fingers crossed !!

Try the Fieldstone House in upstate NY. It's huge and claustrophobic but they have a lot of older fabrics along with new.
|
Try http://www.grsfabrics.com/ It is located in Old Town Spring, outside Houston, TX. I've never been there, but several friends have said the amount of fabric is overwhelming.

I love M & L but you need to unfold the folded fabrics because
some of the have faded lines in them. Use caution. I usually buy from the bolts. |
I have been to Fieldstone House and it is very claustrophobic. He goes to a lot of quilt shows and sells his fabric. I call him a "hoarder" in the best sense of the word. LOL THe phone # is 607-369-9177 if you are interested.

Obie's in East Earl, PA fits the description you gave. They have fabric piled clear to the ceiling. I've only been there a couple of times (and I live nearby) and I always get the feeling that I am going to get buried alive if those stacks should begin to fall.
