I just had this problem with a table runner that I quilted this past week. The top tension needs to be a little tighter. Wish me luck as I quilt a baby quilt today!!!

I use to have that problem. Slow down and practice on fabric scraps first to ensure you have the right tension. Also, if you haven't checked it out - go to to a website www.daystyledesigns.com and check out leah day's online tutorials. I went out and bought the Supreme Sider just a few days ago and have just completed an entire border without problems. I was amazed with the Supreme Slider. Wow - what a differenct it made in my free motion stitches. The website is an awesome resource for any quilter. I also purchased the teflon bobin washers and already have the gloves to control the fabric. The washers are amazing as well. I highly recommend. Solved all my problems. When you go to the website - click on the Free Motion Quilting Project - then START HERE button at the top and follow along - great tips.

I can add, get some gloves with rubber nubs, gardening gloves work, or some sort of quilting gloves, all will help you grip the quilt so your hands don't slip. I always wear them. When you start, each time, pull your bobbin thread up with the top thread, so both threads are on top of the quilt, back stitch a couple of stitches, continue on and make sure you are relaxed, if not it will show in your quilting. By all means do not give up, each quilt will look better. Lots of things to remember and make a check list of what you need to do before starting on your actual quilt. Check the list each time. Good luck.

Don't know if was suggested, but you might need to change the needle and make sure
it is for quilting. If the problem is on the bottom, it is you top tension, if it is on the top, it is your bobbin tension. Hope this helps!! |
Wow, I learned quite a bit from this thread! I love the flamingo fabric.
