Tub of Jeans

Jeans came up in another thread, and I would like to hear more about others' quilt ideas. I still have a tub full of jeans, and also, colorful jeans (Gloria Vanderbilt jeans).

Beautiful and creative, great use of old jeans. I have used old jeans to make potholders. I have a serger so I've also used it to serge pieces of jeans together to use as emergency blankets in the car or for the beach.

I take 5 layers of jeans, round or square, sew around the outside edge at about 1/2 inch, sew lines about 3/4 inch apart, and chenille the top 3 layers. They make great hot pads, especially for outdoors or the cottage.
Lots of people make mock cathedral window quilts with jeans. And I saw a tutorial on how to make jean 'feathers'. It would not use up a lot, but it was certainly different. I keep meaning to try one. https://www.instructables.com/Upcycled-Denim-Feathers/ |
I've made 2 oversized lap quilts out of jean fabrics. Found various colors of jean fabric at JoAnne's years ago. Added embroideries of old vintage type cars on some of the blocks. It came out heavy too. Made it as a rag quilt.
All my neighbors were giving me all their old jeans years ago so I cut out the pockets for another project and started cutting out circles for another all jean lap quilt. Never got it made so gave everything I'd cut out for this quilt to a neighbor that made jean quilts for either the animal shelters or the orphanages, can't remember which but it was for some sort of charity. The pockets I use for when I have to mend my old jeans that have developed a rip or hole. Gives me an extra pocket and covers the rip. Great place to keep my cellphone too if I use a large enough pocket. |
Beautiful quilt aashley333!
The chenielled pot holders are awesome! I've made a few of those. I like the idea of adding an extra pocket over a worn out spot. That would be a great place for a cell phone. And adding embroidery is another great idea! I've had a lot of fun with denim quilts. |
Those blues are really pretty.

So pretty! I've never made a jeans quilt, but I save my husband's old jeans and use them in purses and bags. They make an excellent lining. His are the all cotton ones and with just a fusible interfacing they are a great lining for bags and backpacks.

I've made aprons out of worn-out jeans. I cut them below the pockets, zig zag the edges and put either large rick rack or pre-gathered eyelet. Add a sash and you've got a cute apron. Pictures of a few I've done.

Cute Aprons, MawMawB! Great idea!

Cute quilt! I did one quilt with blue jeans and that was enough. It was big and heavy.
