turkey table runner

I found this pattern on Pinterest this morning and spent the day cutting and ironing on little pieces. It's 16 1/2" square. Tomorrow I will finish the edges with a zig zag stitch. I'm not sure how I should finish the rest of the table runner. Extra blocks? strips? Any ideas?
Nicely done, perfect fabric choices! I would finish with something simple so that the turkey stands on its own. Rather than blocks, I would simply add whatever length of fabric to each end to get the length you need. Possibly something like the 10-minute table runner. You can find several tutorials for that on Pinterest, including one that shows it with strip tube squares in the focus/center. Replace that with your turkey, centered on length needed, and adjust width (I think it usually starts with a 10 or 12 inch center strip and an 18 inch backing/border fabric - so if your turkey is 16", you'd probably need a 24" backing border).
Great turkey! I think a plain fabric section on each end would be nice. If you use the lighter batik, you could appliqué or embroider Happy Thanksgiving on if you wanted.
He's just beautiful!
He is adorable.
He is too cute to be called a turkey! Love him. IMHO I think plain batik on each side to make it the length you want. You don't want to detract from this adorable guy. He deserves to stand alone
WOW you are a quick worker. To find it, copy it and sew it on one day is very impressive.
Wonderful. Be sure to show us when you are done. BrendaK

If you are up for it, another turkey for the other end of the runner, with something like leaves or corn between. Turkey tracks on the border? You have made a fine start for whatever you do.
very cute

A cute turkey...

He is so gorgeous. You choice of batiks are terrific. That is a very hard question. I look for ideas on Google. You could try laying out scraps if there is something that you think will work:

Your turkey is the gobble gobble! Great work!
If you hurry, you can get it to me by Thanksgiving. ;) Love it!!
I think it depends on whether you want to make it a rectangular runner or a square table topper.
If I was going to make a runner then I would make another turkey and face it in the opposite direction with some not too busy fabric/pattern in between. The turkeys could be on the ends or midway to the end. If I was going to make a square topper I would just add some borders of not busy fabric. Probably 2-3 borders of varying sizes to get it as big as I wanted it. In any event I love the turkey and you did a superb job on it! |
Love the table runner, could you share where you found it.
Your choice of fabrics is wonderful. Personally, I would use it as a wall hanging with just a small binding. To use it as a table runner, I would make another one for the other side, and take some silk autumn leaves, randomly toss them here and there, and just attach them to the runner using a zig zag stitch down the center and as a stem.

Great use of those fabrics.
Great turkey! I had to go print it off & will work n one today. Thank you
To start, I'd like to say that he is ADORABLE!! For extra blocks, maybe you could put things like corn on the cob, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie. If you are not wanting to add too much extra work, maybe you could find some fabric that says the same thing.
HHow about some strips and mixed in turkey track blocks. Maybe 4 inch ones here and there on both side. Absolutely love this turkey and the colors you have chosen.
I am in *love* with your fabric choices, especially the turkey's body! This is quirky and beautiful at the same time. Very whimsical!
Your turkey is a handsome fellow! :)

Cute turkey! The colors you chose are perfect!

Somewhere i saw this as a pattern. If I remember right it had a turkey on each end and had a middle section of squares.
WOW! I am impressed! It will be a long time before I attempt anything even remotely Dresdin Platie! Super great job!

For me, your fabric selection and placement was very classy and would hate to see your additions detract from the quality of your turkey. That being said, someone suggested looking at turkey runner samples for ideas and I think that is a super idea.

https://5foot1quilts.wordpress.com/2...y-tas-meeting/ the first photo is antique turkey tracks http://www.quilterscache.com/T/TurkeyTracksBlock.html I guess a modern turkey tracks? Maybe use one of these? Turkey tracks and turkey giblets I used the same pattern back when I first started fmq. Back then, I tried to hide everything? Looking back, the fmq wasn't that bad, but doesn't really show, at least the fabrics are pretty |
