Turn Dash/Monkey Wrench

I'm so in love with the small Turn Dash / Monkey Wrench blocks that Bonnie Hunter is doing on her blog. Have you seen them? So perfect for all the small scraps in my stash. But she hasn't given the size out yet, but I'm guessing they end up at 6 1/2" before sewing together or adding a sashing. I'm already planning on adding a piano key border to my quilt. Personally, I'm on pins and needles until she releases the pattern for these little cuties. Anyone else with me on this?

Yes, I'm with you on that! I did her Leader Ender challenge called Easy Breezy and just loved the small (4 1/2") blocks so much I continued with the same challenge this year. It has used up lots of small bits and pieces. Since I sew almost everyday, even if only 15 minutes, you end up with lots of blocks in a years time. Even when making the Easy Breezy blocks in between sewing other blocks. I'm sold on leaders and enders!! I love seeing what new scrappy ideas Bonnie tempts me with.

I went to her site and watched their truck driving down their long snow/icey driveway. That driveway can be an Olympic bobsled run but watch out for the trees!!

Just looking, so cute - they seem to me to be 5.5" (HSTs 2.5" and sashing 1.5 x 2.5")

I also just love those churn dash/monkey wrench blocks and can’t wait to see her finished quilt. I followed her Easy Breezy leader-ender and did the 6” blocks. I just get so tempted by all of Bonnie’s scrappy creativeness.

I've been searching her site and can't find them!

I was looking for another pattern on Bonnie's site and she does have a free pattern for the churn dash blocks she is making. It wouldn't surprise me if she makes a different looking quilt with the ones she is working on now :)

Thanks for this post and the link. Does anyone know the yellow fabric, shade and brand, used in the sashing? It seems to be the perfect yellow to set off all these scraps.

Looking closely (I think I am looking at the same quilt) that bright yellow fabric seems to be a tone on tone stripe. This fabric might be a close match, just not striped:

Just by the bye, yellows are often hard to find. There are always lots of blues and greens in fabric collections, but not a lot of "just yellow". I always check the yellow section in any quilt store I am in, looking for good yellows to add to the stash.

I love what Bonnie does, but in this quilt I do not like the yellow as sashing! I think it overpowers the blocks, which tend toward the dark. I'd audition some purples and dark reds for that quilt.

Thanks for the link I will be there shortly.

WesternWilson-I’m looking at the Monkeying Around and the yellow looks more like butter, to me, than lemon peel. I really like the lighter sashing, so you can distinguish the darker money wrench blocks. That’s why they say our quilts are all unique because its all how you interpret them. I do,however, respect your point of view or how you like all dark
Here is a close up view of Bonnie’s quilt we are speaking of.

Bonnie Hunter uses a lot of chrome yellow in her quilts. To be honest I had not noticed the yellow in her quilt. Will have to go back and take a look.

huh - sorry all. The link doesnt work anymore and the pattern is gone now, I wonder if she removed it since she is working on something similar? The one she is working on now looks fabulous :)
