I'm using the original Turning Twenty pattern, but making one of the variations - a Turning 12 - using only 12 fat quarters. I have 12 FQs that were sold as a set labeled "warm fat quarter sampler". (These blocks are the ones that have a square and a small rectangle next to each other and a large rectangle is sewn across the other two to finish the block.)

My fabrics are in yellows, oranges, and reds. I have put my cut pieces into sets that are rather monochromatic - I tend to be "matchy-matchy". But the red blocks will stick out so much more than the lighter colors. Should I mix the colors more? In each block put a light/medium/dark? Scatter them randomly?

Here is the range of colors I'm dealing with. I'm wondering if I just need to stop and find some other colors to mix in.....

Most of the fabrics are tone on tone and blenders - very few prints. Right now I'm just stuck - not able to figure out what to do next!
