For a lapquilt 50x70 would it be all right when using 90" wide muslin as backing if I use the 90" lengthwise instead of widthwise? I am new to machine quilting and am concerned that using it this way the backing would be too stretchy. Hope my question makes sense. Would appreciate any advice. TIA :)

The amount of stretch widthwise is not enough to be a problem.

I've been doing it for years. Never a problem.

Go for it. Save where you can.
