I was told not to turn off the surge protector as it's only protecting when on, my other concern is if you turn off just the surge protector and not the machine first arn't you causing a surge when you turn the surge protecter back on. Just a thought from an over thinker.LOL I turn my machine off when I'm done for the day, I hardley ever unplug it it's on a surge protector, have not had any problems at all (knock no wood) and we lose power all the time.

I usually turn mine off when I'm not going to be using it for more than an hour or so. When I bought the machine I did ask the dealer if it's a problem if it's left on all day and he said no because that's what they do at the store, leave the machines on all day!

If I leave mine for more than 15 minutes I turn it off!!!

I also have had a friend whose machine started a fire while turned off but plugged in. I don't unplug but do try to remember to turn it off even if I think I'm only going to be away for a short period. Now I'm thinking I should rearrange things to turn off the power strip rather than just the machine. Comments?
