Turtles from Drunkard's Path (F&P)

Today on our Fons and Porter quilt show, Mary Fons and a guest showed how to use a serger to piece curved pieces. The first example they had was a very cute---and extremely simple---turtle pillow. The block was simply 2 green turtle "pie" pieces with the blue water "crust" pieces set in opposite corners along with two just the opposite green turtle crust pieces with the pie pieces being the pie parts.

Almost forgot------head and tail pieces set in DP piece as stitched. The turtle's legs are the longer edge pieces of the "crust"

They had made a pillow out of the turtle, but it would be so cute to do a few turtles, using blue for sashing or solid blocks for a baby quilt. Fits the criteria for a good kids quilt.
A cute animal, primary colors of blue and green, and a quick project.

They will usually tell you where to find the pattern up on the web site -- sounds cute.

I don't need the pattern. I've already sketched it out. All I need to do is to buy the templates-------imagine me saying that.

Here's the show with the turtle

Episode 1903: Conquer Curved Seams with Your Serger

Quilters, have you ever considered using your serger to piece your patchwork? This program will show you how to do just that. National Sewing Educator Pam Mahshie demonstrates to Mary how to successfully serge a curved seam with a serger, how to set the proper stitch width for an accurate seam, and also how to hold fabric when piecing with a serger.

The tail is 3D and I appliqued the head. this is actually an old block except I changed the head and tail to something more realistic looking.

Great example. And if you can piece curved seams, this is surely a quick quilt. Thanks, Anna
