I have to head to Tuscon on Wednesday to see my mom. She has been down in the dumps for a while and it's the second "birthday" without dad. Last time I was there, we went to her little quilt store and got her a project to work on--she hasn't even touched it.

Help me out fellow quilters--is there a friendly shop we can visit and hopefully find a great place for my mom to get back to doing the things she likes to do??(Sewing and quilting??)
**She is south of Tuscon and I have a brother in Surprise, AZ so she travels quite a bit--we are open to anything.
TIA,

Where does she live? I know of several guilds "south" of Tucson.

Green Valley

They have a quilt show there every spring, so I bet there is a guild.

Green Valley is a very active senior community. Is your mother a "joiner" or home body?

Just found this link http://www.vqgaz.com/ to the local guild.

She is SOOOOO not a joiner. She has had a hearing problem her whole life and she tends to use that as a crutch even though you know darn well she heard every word you said!

I never got away with ANYTHING as a kid! lol

Understand completely.

My mother had selective hearing!

In Tucson itself the shops I like the most are: The Quilt Basket, Quilt Market, and Bella's.

Gads, but there are a few others on the way to Tucson. One is a double wide trailer out in the country that has so much fabric you almost get lost and then wonder how that lady got so much fabric in that space. Maybe someone else on the BQ knows the name and location.

Up here Phoenix way there is 35th Avenue Sew & Vac, which is supposed to have the larges inventory in the state. It's Fabric World is carefully hidden and you might want to ask how to get to it as it is down a bit of a ramp past all the sewing machines.

From 35th Ave S&V if you go west there is The Cactus Bee 75th Ave and W. Cactus. On up toward Sun City there is Arizona Quilts at 99th Ave & Beardsley and then Sun Valley Quilts @ 9857 W. Bell Rd just inside Sun City. Unfortunately the quilt store in Surprise closed.

In the West Valley there is Bearly Stitchin and In Stitches, both in Goodyear.

Have fun.

Hi quiltwoman,

I e-mailed a Tucson friend and she knew the stores I was thinking of. They are: Quilter's Desert Patch in Sahuarita [I think this is the double wide trailer], AZ and Hearts and Hands-Green Valley, AZ.
