when I first started quilting all we had in our area was cotton poly blend it made beautiful quilts no bleeding or shrinkage theb only problem it does not hold a crease like 100 per cent cotton and was very difficlut to use in hand applique but for utility quilts it is the best stands many washings and still looks nice

I used the Tutti Fruitti for a demo. Pressed it and the texture pressed out. In fact, there was a bolt of the TF there that was partly textured, partly not. I figured that had happened in manufacturing and wasn't caught before shipping or shipped out to be put on the shelves and hoped no one noticed. It was beautiful to work with and would make fantastic kids clothes and quilts...just don't press it.

If I was planning to make utility/kids quilts that I expect to have a hard life, I wouldn't hesitate to use poly blend fabrics. I would use only poly fabrics for the reasons given concerning cotton vs poly; I might use cotton batting, just because I dislike the feel of poly batting. It would sure make care easier; so what if they last forever as long as they serve the current purpose. Also, for those family members or friends who let their animals use the quilts as beds or those who use them for picnics etc. -- you know - the ones we call quilt unworthy - if they want a quilt, make it to suit their use patterns - poly sounds good.

If I was making a traditional style quilt meant for a gift to someone who knows how to treat it, then back to the cotton only. Since I'll probably never enter a judged quilt show, I won't even go there

I prefer the feel of the cotton, both for working with and for using. Besides it I have to count the poly blend fabrics as part of my stash, I"ll have a admit to being a fabric hoarder ;) and I Really don't want to go there. :p :p:p

I made a summer quilt out of this fabric and love it! It is so bright and colorful! I used white flannel (prewashed of course because it does shrink a lot) for the batting to give it body. It is just perfect for our Houston summers.

The fabric was really wonderful to work with and I have enough left over to do a quilt for my great niece.

I think it depends on the usage. I agree that I prefer cotton for bed or lap quilts, because they breathe better. However, for picnic or kids quilts, I don't see why not. Poly cotton will probably withstand that type of usage better.

There is nothing wrong with it. I've heard of some people using cotton/poly blends. For me, I'm a 100% cotton lady, just love how it feels.
