I have found the perfect fabric to go with my LSU 100% cotton fabric. The only thing is that it is twill fabric. I found it on line at "the Stitch and Frame Shop" . I have never used twill fabric, in anything. Does it wash well and keep its color? Can it be mixed succesfuly with cotton in a quilt? What do you think the problems would be in doing this?

Twill is heavier weight than quilting cotton, similar to lightweight denim, just so you know. If you mix them, the weights will be quite different. I'm not sure it would work very well. Could you do the whole thing in twill?

I have a quilt that's 12 years old. It has three fabrics, a regular cotton, a twill and a sheet. I didn't have any problem putting it together and it wears like iron and is washed regularly.

mixing textures, weights and fibers is PERFECTLY ACCEPTABLE when quilting. if you are concerned about the difference int he weight between one fabric and another you can add a lightweight stablizer to the thinner fabric. i have made quilts with cottons, silks, velvets, wools, canvas, denims, chintz and broadcloth (all in the same quilt) the only thing i worry about when making quilts is how the different textiles will launder together. if it is an item that will be washed i want everything to wash together-if it's a wall hanging i don't worry about that part as much.

I know the twill you are talking about. I have used it without any problems. Have fun with your LSU quilt!

I so appreciate everyone on this board!!! I have just found the perfect fabric with cars and trucks and construction equipment at Joanns for the back of my grandson's quilt. It was a twill and I was worried about using it on the quilt. I feel so much better now that I have read these comments and am in a happy place now. It will be a while before it is done, still stitching around the appliqué, but will post a picture when finished. Thanks everyone!

Twill is heavier than cotton so I wouldn't want to mix the two. There are many online stores that carry ALL of the 303 colors that Kona Cotton comes in.
