Geez!!!! Had to take a Finger Break. Tying a quilt and my fingertips are killing me. What do you ladies do??
Tried diffeent fingertip thingys, but they're too uncomfortable.
Someone should make a gadget that grabs the thread and somehow loops to make a knot - Wait a minute, just had a brain surge - what about the latch-hook needle thingy that we used years ago when latch-hook was all the rage. I think I've got a few of them around here somewhere.
Any other ideas?????

I do mine in small segments to avoid sore fingers...

In a magazine I saw where they actually sewed the yarn or other piece to the quilt. SO, you took the yarn, sewed in place over the yarn and then tied it. It was suggested for tough fabrics (so you arent trying to pull in thru) or even to use ribbon or lace instead of yarn. (hope this makes sense...)

You have to take a break every once and let your fingers rest. At least I do.

I do it little by little, keep my hands and fingers soft with hand lotion and use finger cots (which can be found in drug, Walmart....)

I've used (clean) needle nose pliers to grab the needle and pull it through the layers.

Try using a doll making needle. They have a larger eye and a sharp tip not to mention more to grab onto. The length of the needle makes it easy to do a running stitch with a loop where you want to tie at. Not explaining this well so i've attached a link that is similar to what I do. Only thing I do different is I do it from the top then I can go back and clip in the middle of the long runs and that gives me my tails to tie.http://www.creationsbykara.com/2010/...ied-quilt.html

I spotted in Joann's a needle set of curved needles for quilt tying.

I forgot to add this to my post. My DH bought me some pliers to use to pull needle through. Works great

I did this on a custom made (not by me) baby quilt that had no batting and had fusible on the Minkee borders. It worked quite well. I tried tying the usual way but the fabric was so tough the needle wouldn't go through.
