Tying a satin & flannel quilt w/ yarn??

Has anyone ever tied a satin & flannel baby quilt with yarn? I am just wondering, if I do this with the yarn put too big of a hole in the satin and cause it to fray or ravel down the road?
Thx

You may be right about the yarn. Could you use pearl cotton or thin crochet thread?

What about embroidery floss?

I vote for embroidery floss. Have read that yarn doesn't come out, but it would require pretty big holes. Have read the pearl cotton tends to unknot over time.

Why not machine tack instead of ties. Just put your stitch length to zero , and zig zag at the widest width .

If the quilt is for a girl you could use very narrow satin ribbon in the center of squares &/or at intersections. It does make a larger hole but I haven't heard of any issues with it creating a problem (other than little brothers trying to untie the ribbon). It creates a very feminine look, especially if you tie in a bow as well as knotting, and the girls I've given them to have loved them. Ages of recipients have ranged from 3 to 30+. I even did one in corduroy and used a wider ribbed ribbon on it.

I also vote for embroidery floss and to use a double square knot when tying. I have never had a problem with the floss untying/unknoting doing the double square knot. I just saw a baby quilt I made and tyed with a double square knot 12 years ago that has been passed on to many babies, washed weekly and it is still tyed also has not faded because I used good thread count fabric. The knot makes the difference whether the quilt stays tyed.

By double square knot I make a square knot and repeat it again.

I agree with machine tacking, no loose threads.

I just purchased a baby quilt at the thrift store for $3.50. It was tied with yarn. After washing it, some of the ties raveled. I wish I had quilted it before washing. We have quilts around the house that have been tied for 28 and 45 years with crochet cotton with no problems.
