UFO Challenge for 2012

Has there been a post for a UFO Challenge for 2012? I can't seem to find one. I didn't officially join for 2011, but I did challenge myself to complete at least one per month. I have exceeded that goal, reached 16 yesterday, and thought I would join the 2012 challenge. Thanks to all who organize these challenges, etc.

Pollyv9. it looks like you have just started it!! LOL

I think it is usually just a thread started by a member. Then whoever wants to participate, does.

Congratulations on getting so many UFOs completed this year!

DebraK 12-13-2011 11:10 AM

Quite an accomplishment.

Gramie bj 12-13-2011 11:31 AM

OH MY you have done very well, if anyone starts a challenge please let me know I think I may need to have some one watching over my shoulder from time to time.LOL Question! UFO means Unfinished object, right? does this included projects that you want to get done, have everything for but just haven't actually started? Example this last summer found out my nephew will be leaving the Army in June and I would really like to make him a special quilt. I have come up with a design and purchased all needed supplies , fabric, thread, batting, and backing. Is that a UFO or do I have to actualy start cutting fabric, and set it aside before it is a UFO

pollyjvan9 12-13-2011 06:16 PM

Gramie BJ, I think an unfinished object (UFO) is just that. One that is in some stage of construction, put aside for whatever reason, and not gotten back to for a while. I have some that I pieced the top the 1st year I started quilting, 2006 and have never quilted. Some are done except for the binding, some about half way finished. I always have several that I am working on at once so it is hard for me to tell for sure what is a UFO, so anything I haven't touched for at least 3 mos qualifies. Well, if I have started a challenge I guess I will try to finish my list and put it on here in a few days. My goal this year is to finish 20 UFO's.

Canada Kate 12-13-2011 06:31 PM

I must be a werido or something, as I only work on one thing at a time.

quilter1942 12-13-2011 06:40 PM

I have a lot of UFO and PIGS,I usually have 2 or 3 at a time I am working on.I get bored if I am just working on 1.Canada Kate you are are not a weirdo.I have friends who work on 1 thing at a time.1 only buys what she needs for a project and what is left she gives away or takes to Goodwill. She doesn`t have a stash.

Thank goodness I only have two. One is a simple little wall hanging that just needs to finish quilting then bind and hang. The other is a quilt I cut out for a baby, but it wasn't wowing me so I stopped on it. It needs to be laid out again, sewn (as right now it's just pieces) quilted and bound. I guess that's not too bad. I do have ones that I have sitting fabric and patterns to that I haven't touched yet - perhaps those will be next years. If I did finish them before the year was out, I would feel like my sewing year was a complete success.

And btw I think you have started the 2012 UFO Challenge right here!

Treasureit 12-13-2011 07:04 PM

I think I will jump on board this year and try to get all my UFOs done....except maybe not the hand applique I work on at my leisure. It will be with me for a long I time I think. I can't wait to start a couple new ones though...hmmm...how do you do it all???

sharon b 12-13-2011 07:15 PM

Yep- Polly you started it :) And I need to join the group- I have I think ... 4 oh so close to finished I should be embarrassed that they are not done :( LOL

This was me just one year ago. Then I went on a State wide Shop Hop in the Spring and bought way too much and couldn't wait to start on everything I bought. This year I have UFO's...sigh.

I'm in for the UFO challenge for 2012. I'll make my list and come back to this thread to post all of it. I've realized that I get more done if I work on one thing at a time instead of multiple things. I think having so much to do just plain overwhelms me and I spend most of my time fretting over what to work on next or what to finish next. I guess I'll just finish them in the order I started them in. It might take me a the whole next year to get them all done. I must add here though that I will be starting one new quilt this year because I've already obligated myself to the Quilts for Quilters Swap. I do at least follow through on projects that have a deadline. Better start digging!

gramma nancy 12-13-2011 07:28 PM

I occasionally go through an orgy of completing things and finish as many as 2 or 3 in a week (not just quilting projects, but mostly quilting.) It always feels so good, but the most amazing thing is how little work is required to complete some of them. Always makes me wonder why I put them aside in the first place.

annesthreads 12-13-2011 10:57 PM

I joined a 2011 UFO challenge elsewhere, because I hadn't discovered this forum a year ago. I didn't do that well - I think I've finished 4, but have doen some work on some of the others. However, I've also started 2 new projects...! But I think that means I'm just about winning. So yes, I'm up for 2012 and continuing to make some progress. I find that sometimes a project comes to a halt because I need fabric or thread - I don't like to buy everything before I start, as I often rethink or make decisions about quilting as I go along, and my budget isn't big enough to be buying stuff I don't use. So I often have to wait until I can get to a shop or show, and then will work on something else. And I like a bit of variety, rather than just focusing on one project. So I think UFOs will always be a part of my quilting life -I just need to have fewer than I have at the moment (about 15, I think, in various stages, from not started to just needing the binding sewn down).

Polly, I was just looking through the topics tonight and found this.

jaciqltznok 12-14-2011 02:07 AM

ok..so you finished 16 UFO'S and you need another year to finish MORE of them...hehehehe
glad I am in good company..I have about 38 I want/need to finish...NOW, I just heard some of you gasp, and nearly faint...BUT, you must understand for years I taught. That meant blocks, tops, etc had to be in various stages of completion to be shown/understood by students...Now that I no longer teach those classes, I just need to complete the projects and move on!

#1piecemaker 12-14-2011 04:20 AM

There is one. I signed up for it. Don't recall the link right now. But, its listed under the Challenge Section here on the board.

Snoflak 12-14-2011 04:36 AM

I think I need to be part of this! I have several UFO's just begging to be finished! It's a shame really! I get these "bright ideas".... start them & stuff them away! LOL

Although, the one I'm working on this week will be done in record time! I MUST get it finished for Christmas (of this year!! lol).... I just started cutting/sewing on Saturday! Maybe this will be a good boost for me!

So fellow Quilters....... Here's to completing all (or most!) of our UFO's in 2012!!

OK, maybe I am not so much of a weirdo then - I have a stash! I can't imagine not having lots of fabric. I'm a relatively new quilter so I have no guilt whatsoever regarding building up inventory. I'm building a sewing room in my basement (http://www.quiltingboard.com/mission...s-t170083.html) so I need to aquire stuff to put in it...At least, that's what I keep telling myself. Someone posted a qusetion on here last night about muslin, with a link to Quilt Fabric Closeouts, so of course I had to place a large order since I followed the link. :-)

gollytwo 12-14-2011 05:14 AM

Congratulations - if you have a pill/drink/whatever please send.
I had 37+ at last count and only seem to add to it.

Raggiemom 12-14-2011 05:21 AM

I'm in! I finished my UFOs for 2011 but somehow have accumulated another pile of them! :)

pollyjvan9 12-14-2011 07:11 AM

Canada Kate and Quilter 1942 - I wish I could keep myself working on just one project at a time. I get to thinking of something I want to do and just can't wait to get started on it. Also, I am afraid I will forget all about it if I wait until I have finished a project.

Snoflak 12-15-2011 06:22 AM

yesterday I posted here that I wanted to get in on this challenge, and I still do! however, last night as I was working feverishly on my son's quilt (i WILL have it done by this weekend!) I realized that in order to complete any of these UFO's I have...... I MUST CLEAN MY ROOM!!! Good Grief?! It's a total disaster!!! my problem is that I do too many things! scrapbooking..... card making..... painting...... quilting..... yea, I do a little bit of everything! lol but I honestly have to clean it because my rolling totes are still sitting in the middle of my room from a crop I was at a month ago and my tables are literally stacked with stuff!

I'm starting to think I have a real problem....... lol I have an addiction to "collecting" paper & fabric!!!

aliaslaceygreen 12-15-2011 06:41 AM

I'm in!!! I think we need to be assigned a buddy...someone who will whip our behinds via PM!
(they would have to be matched by someone far better than me, and they probably should have lists of approximately the same size)
