UFOers--Join me today to work on some UFOs

Well, UFO Friday has arrived. I'm going to work on some applique UFOs that have been sitting around much longer than I would like to admit! If you have a UFO, please feel free to join me. Or if you want to start something new, join us as well. I will check back here periodically. Please post pictures if you want.

DOTTYMO 03-29-2013 12:42 AM

Going out to pick up a sewing table will join you when I get back.

redmadder 03-29-2013 02:42 AM

Don't mind if I do. Last year I pieced 1000+ scrappy courthouse step blocks over the summer and made 3 queen size quilts and a few nap sizes. Now there are a few UFO blocks around, with just a few left to do and I'll have a couple more nap sizes. Then there are the blue string blocks. Some orphan blocks that I may piece around with strips so they are the center of big log cabin blocks. And a basket full of other thought about projects. Looking forward to the day.

Mine is not an UFO but a WIP. I have the day off and will be working on it. Are you showing pics?
I can't show mine because it a surprise for a member of the QB. quilt for quilters 2013 swap. see you at the sewing room!

I'll join you. Our guild has a UFO challenge due at the April meeting. I haven't completed as many as I would have liked. The other guild has one due in October so will keep going. I have one I'm machine quilting, 2 that just need the binding stitched down, and 1 hand quilting that is getting close to being done. Will work on the machine quilting today until I start to stress and then go to the handwork.

Raggiemom 03-29-2013 06:58 AM

Welcome to all! Glad you can join us. I'm making progress on the machine applique but I can't say it looks very good. It's Banana Cat from the Garden Patch series. I think I'll consider it a practice one and give it to the cats to lay on. Maybe they'll use that instead of what I'm actually quilting. I'm not sure I like how the machine applique is going, I know I need more practice. But I may try some hand applique down the road.

I'm still in my jammies and plan to work on my many UFO'S most of the day. I have finished one and after this tea break I will start another. Having a nice relaxing day---and getting some of this clutter out of the way.

narnianquilter 03-29-2013 07:28 AM

I have a borderline UFO...it hasn't been sitting around that long, I just hate it. However it is a commissioned piece for a friend and they love it! Which is good, but it makes it really hard to motivate myself to work on it! Might try and join you for some work today!

DOTTYMO 03-29-2013 07:46 AM

Just returned from 4 hour trip. Going to patchwork a dog coat sey all later.

This is the Banana Cat finished. I didn't like the way it was coming out so didn't complete the face since I'm letting the cat have it! I even sewed her name on it :)

Raggiemom, that's adorable!

Good Afternoon.... I'm sewing today too! I made one of my FWS blocks and currently cutting the second one out. Once I'm done with those I'm going to work on my UFO that I have in the hoop right now. It's being handquilting in a 1" crosshatch design and has been waiting for over a year to be finished. It's a bit time consuming as it averages 10 - 12 stitches per inch on top. And this is just a touch of what I would like to touch on this weekend. I have a mini chick quilt that I do the hand appliqueing during TV Time also. So I'm in for a penny ... in for a pound.

Oh, hey, we're having another UFO day? Excellent! Except I have no UFOs :(

Can I hijack the day and use it as a virtual quilting day and just come sew with you all when I get off work? :)

Raggiemom 03-29-2013 10:26 AM

That's fine with me, Teeler!

qbtexas 03-29-2013 11:06 AM

Cute Banana Cat! I'm doing the giant UFO that is my back yard today. Though I did take a top to the LAQ before we went to Home Depot. :) Will be thinking of y'all!! (and no, the back yard UFO will not get finished today....it's going to be a WIP for a while)

DOTTYMO 03-29-2013 11:26 AM

Well I've just stopped sewing. I have managed to chop a piece out of my finger . No sewing for the rest of th day at least .

Raggiemom 03-29-2013 12:01 PM

qbtexas, well that's still a UFO!

dottymo, hope your finger isn't too bad...

Quercus Rubra 03-29-2013 12:38 PM

I'll join the UFO/WIP progress, since I got out of work early. I've been plugging away at a lap quilt for my grandmother in law who has dementia and requires full time care. Here is the plan and my current design wall (sorry about the red design wall fabric, its all I have on hand right now)!

kae- what a beautiful design!
I'm taking a break from the B9...I'm OFFICIALLY 1/2 way through the rows!! Who knows if they'll match up at the end...
What's everyone else working on?

kaelynangelfoot 03-29-2013 04:33 PM

@Teeler & Raggiemom, thanks so much for the compliments. I've only got a couple more blocks done (DH keeps distracting me with various things) but the quilt feels like it is starting to come together finally.

Raggiemom 03-30-2013 04:12 AM

Thanks to all who joined me yesterday. Although I only completed the one wallhanging, I felt like I accomplished a lot because I then spent quite a bit of time researching and watching videos on other ways to applique. And now I know how to make the next one better. The rest of the weekend I'm going to sandwich and quilt a couple quilts hopefully. It's just my husband and I for Easter, so after lunch, I can quilt some more!

If anyone is interested in doing this in April, just let me know and I'll figure out a day :)

Quercus Rubra 03-31-2013 07:07 AM

I'm in again although it will have to be with hand work since I had to clear off the dining room tablefor something other than dinner. It is just me and the other half so no big dinner. But that is okay... hopefully with what's going on today, it will be a smooth transfer. With a quick run thru of dishes & the vac I'll be good to go. This could be a productive day even with my hand quilting.

Toodles,
Tricia

REal cute, Cincinnati. We have no relatives here in Tennessee and I have problems traveling due to pain, so - we went to Church this AM as well as Sunday School; went out to eat and here I am. It's chilly outside and sort of rainy-like. When I was a child, it was an entirely different story in Ohio, south of Dayton. We always had a big celebration for Easter; Easter eggs had been colored and baskets had been filled from our Easter Egg hunt. Those days will always be remembered. D
