Making curtains for my stepsons room and I'm just sewing along hemming the curtains and all of a sudden my machine makes this horrible noise! Looking all over trying to figure out what just happened. Needle good, just changed that, bobbin good, plenty of thread. Where the heck did the top thread go? Oh my Lord, actually ran out of thread on the spool!!!! I don't ever remembering that actually happening before!! Of course, didn't have anymore of that color, off to JoAnn's to get another spool. Gave up for the night and will restart today!!!

Happens to me all the time. I always push it to the limit and run out of thread. LOL

no1jan 05-06-2010 02:54 AM

Didn't you just tell me you bought tons of thread! Good luck, hope you get the thread and get those curtains finished.

Oh I most certainly purchased a ton of thread!! Of course, it was not the same color that I was using!!

CarrieAnne 05-06-2010 03:23 AM

Isnt that the way it goes...you have alot of thread, but just not that one color!

dsb38327 05-06-2010 03:24 AM

Luck of the draw. All you can do is smile and say 'Oh, well'. Have a good day.

I've run out of thread before, machine never made a noise. I've just gone maybe 2 feet and notice either I have no top thread or it isn't making stitches and I notice the thread is gone. Might have been good if machine would have made a noise.

I'm glad it wasn't serious.

Ninnie 05-06-2010 04:41 AM

LOL don't you just love it when you run out of thread, and don't discover it until waaaaaaaaaaay down the seam?

Oklahoma Suzie 05-06-2010 04:41 AM

I think it happend to me once, a long time ago.

danmar 05-06-2010 04:46 AM

Actually, I run out of bobbin thread quite often. I never pay much attention to how much is left as I can't see how much there is. I notice when I see no stitches. As for the top thread, I use the serger cones not spools, so they last for months. They cost about the same as a spool and you get sooooo much more thread!

sandpat 05-06-2010 04:51 AM

Oh carp....I hate it when that happens and I'll have to admit that when I'm really going along good...thats when it will happen!

beachlady 05-06-2010 05:02 AM

Don't think I have ever run out of top thread - bobbin thread loads of times. Bet you really didn't mind going to the fabric store!!

sahm4605 05-06-2010 05:07 AM

I hate it when i run out of thread on the bobbin and the the spool. Good excuse to hit a fabric store or QS. YEAH! :-)

kylenstevesmom 05-06-2010 05:10 AM

I regularly run out of both bobbin and top thread...

I stocked up on thread last year when someone had a sale so I'm good to go for all colors, so I don't need to go out to the store, I just shop in my thread baskets!

You'll have to post a picture of everything you buy when you go to get that thread.

I have been there. It seems like it should be impossible to do. You are right. That machine makes a horrible noise.

Tally Kathy 05-07-2010 09:02 AM

It seems I always run out of bobbin thread when I'm sewing on borders - and I don't notice until I'm just at the end of a long strip....

nwm50 05-07-2010 09:24 AM

That what i was thinking !!

Lyn4ty 05-07-2010 10:16 AM

I always run out of bobbin thread and keep merrily sewing my nice long chain of squares only to find at the end it ran out after the first square! I wish the bobbin would beep when it's running out, or the top thread would beep too. Maybe all those really expensive ones do that.

Ada Shiela 05-07-2010 05:06 PM

Sorry about your predicament my dear, might be time to upgrade to a new modern embroidery machine which does give a bobbin run out message - more expense but the cheapest part of machine embroidery is the machine itself, software and designs etc cost more, but then so do fabrics for patchwork  Drop a few hints for Mother's Day this weekend

bjdemir 05-07-2010 09:26 PM

I probably have about 300 spools of thread, but when someone wants me to hem pants or skirts, or mend something I never seem to have the right color. My new machine tells me when the bobbin is almost empty, but not the spool! That would be something they could intigrate with all the new technology that is out there.

zz-pd 05-11-2010 09:43 AM

thats to funny, I watch for that when I am sewing. God bless. Penny

wvdek 05-11-2010 09:49 AM

Darn I hate it when that happens.
