Has anyone made an ugly quilt? I have. All I can say is what ever made me do it.

I still use it. It keeps us warm.

THe only really ugly quilt I have made is when I was doing a challenge or something for the guild over which I had no artistic licience. At least you finished it. I am afraid that I would not have completed it if I felt it was ugly. That is what the UFO or white elephant table is for at guild shows or silent auctions.

If you have pets it will be wonderful for protecting your furniture and the pet will love having their own quilt.

Everyone on this board is so gracious and kind and always says the nicest things and assures me what I made wasn't ugly even though I know the truth.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and agree with you. Maybe not clear to ugly but maybe not the prettiest quilt I have seen.

Thank you soooooo much for brightening my day to know I'm not the only one who does things that don't come out exactly as I planned.

Having said this, I have one I call The Ugly quilt and it is my family's favorite. So maybe you just made your family's new favorite quilt.

Chele 09-26-2008 12:46 PM

It kind of grows on me the more that I look at. I happen to adore scrap quilts and yours is scrappy and random. I'm glad to hear that you use it! Quilts have feelings, you know!

beachlady 09-26-2008 12:50 PM

It is not that bad. I like the pattern.

SaraSewing 09-26-2008 12:52 PM

It's rather unattractive. But I have one worse, so relax, you'll probably make another one worse in your career also!

CissyQuilts 09-26-2008 01:20 PM

It's not that bad. You should see my first quilt. I won't show it to anyone; it's that bad.

Pam S 09-26-2008 01:42 PM

I've seen worse. OK, I've made worse. Should have seen the one I made for my boyfriend back in my 20s. No wonder that relationship didn't last!

Craftybug 09-26-2008 01:55 PM

I happen to agree with Chele. No quilt is ugly not when is made by loving hands. This quilt has an appeal to it and I like it.

Skeat 09-26-2008 03:53 PM

Okay...poke me in eye w/a needle..for I don't think that is ugly at all!! I'd stand in an auction to buy it!! I see art...history in fabric...and I'd study it in trying to understand what you were thinking on placements, etc. I have a quilt that I thought was soooo ugly for years and years. It was many moons ago and I tried to quilt by hand (self taught)only to have someone tear me up about it...so sent all of it to my grandmother half finished..then she put it on the ugliest pink fabric made on earth. What I sent her was blue/white print fabric. I look at this quilt now and realize for the first time in my life that my grandmother was an artist. For real!! The imagination she had in the placement of my blocks, etc has me awe struck!! It really didn't dawn on me till I had it hanging on the clotheline to air and when retrieving it, I realized right then....wow! There really isn't an ugly quilt....I just don't believe it. Not even close w/this one!! Skeat........who recognizes that fabrics change at the same time our tastes might:))

OK quilt4u...I'm stepping out here and agreeing with you...LOL, LOL...that is 1 ugly quilt  That being said...I have 1 that is uglier! I won't even uncover it to let anyone seee it! So, you may be the proud owner of an ugly quilt, but at least you are brave enough to show it

Janeen 09-26-2008 04:12 PM

well, I don't think it's ugly.... unless of course, we can't see it that good 8)

reminds me of the fancy dancy ones in the mags where they use a rainbow of colors...

judee0624 09-26-2008 04:17 PM

:D I know of what you speak. I have one that I did as a Mystery Quilt - my first Mystery- and now I know why it was a mystery. BUT, I showed it to my older son who liked it, so I finished it with some help and now it isn't ugly, or at least not AS ugly as it was. So I am glad to see your quilt is being used. It is kinda plain, but not really ugly.

I'm with Sandpat.   I like your style quilt4u. You are one brave lady.

But remember what is ugly to one is pretty to another. :D

Nice pattern. What is it?

I think you should say it is "Interesting" and it has "Character"!!! No quilt is truly ugly, some are just more interesting than others!! :D

gcathie 09-26-2008 08:31 PM

Your one brave soul.....

tlrnhi 09-26-2008 08:52 PM

I don't think it's ugly, but I wouldn't call it beautiful either. It's a nice quilt. Reminds me of something that would have been made years and years ago when fabric was scarce. Know what I mean? It's a very nice quilt!!!

shellyp 09-27-2008 07:51 AM

For you to say that its used and keeps you warm tells me that it is very much loved. And isn't that all we want for our quilts? To be used by those we love.

LOL :D

Barbm 09-27-2008 10:18 AM

I've got one underway- I call it the "butt ugly" quilt. I'm MAKING myself finish it. But, I tried to make it better and I think I may have accomplished that. But, because I hate it, the sashings are off on the rows and I don't care! I just want to finish it and make it go away!

Oh well, maybe it will go to sleep one night and wake up beautiful. (In my dreams!)

Ive made ugly quilts but I learned alot with each one. So I write it off as a learning experience.
Just finished a top that is horrible, with extreme bright colors and the wrong pattern to use for the colors used. Another learning experience.

bearisgray 09-27-2008 03:45 PM

It looks like it's finished and that it's being used.

That counts as "successful" to me.

sondray 09-27-2008 06:30 PM

It's not that bad. I have yet to make a quilt other than rag quilts. They are sew easy, I can't help myself. I think I'm addicted to rag quilts.

littlehud 09-27-2008 07:24 PM

The first quilt I made my oldest daughter turned out really ugly. I didn't like the colors or the pattern after I was done. Told her I would make another one that was nicer. She told me its warm and every night she covers up with it she can feel the love I put in it and she knows she is loved. What a great kid. But it still is ugly.

sewnsewer2 09-28-2008 12:29 AM

Yep, I made an ugly dresden and never finished it. Won't either!

Yours doesn't look bad.

johnette 09-28-2008 04:10 AM

I really like the pattern and it looks like it was very time consuming. Maybe the colors could have cooperated a little better but all in all I think it is a nice quilt. If I were cold and you offered me that quilt to snuggle up in, I would think it the most beautiful quilt on earth!

Bevanger 09-28-2008 06:17 AM

hey i like it....... :D

:D :D :D :D I so love to hear the responses from everyone! It is prove positive that everyone's opinion is perfectly wonderfully theirs! I agree with sandpat and sewsewquilter! Not the prettiest one I've ever seen, but I have seen worse. Here's an idea, try it again with different colors and placement and see how it turns out! :D

   What a sweet child!! She's a keeper!

reneebobby 09-29-2008 05:13 AM

Really it's not too bad but I'm still learning. I think had you just placed the blocks different it would have been better. I guess that is why they came out the the quilting software to stop opps like that. Well, if anything someone would love it at the homeless shelter. Nice tax rightoff too.

Quilt4u 09-30-2008 11:00 AM

Thanks for the complements; But this was my 2end quilt and my first time to free motion quilting with out a walking foot too. What a mess at the bottom. But I don't let anything go to waste.
