Just on the fly, the other night I put together the cutest little pinwheel quilt with some flannel remnants. Tried the tube quilt method to create my blocks after I cut my strips, but after sewing them all together, when I went to cut them I cut one on the "wrong" side - so now I have 11-1/2 squares that are perfect, and one square that is fine for one half but the other half doesn't match up correctly. I'm out of fabric! What do I do, and why was I so silly???? I hate to make my quilt 3 blocks x 3 blocks; it really needs to be the full 3 x 4 blocks to have a nice flow to the pinwheels. Sigh. I am waaaaaaay too much a novice to be trying things "on the fly!"

use a different color and put a cute poem in the piece or embroidery or applique a design in it. Make it part of the overall design.

Just use it. Call it a humility block. I sure it will be fine.

Turn everything all around and make it look really different. If anyone asks, it was a design decision!

Find a layout to make it work and say you meant to do it that way :)

Ooh, and post some pictures. We can help suggest layouts

I'd put the wonky puppy in the bottom corner (whichever one looks best) and call it "on purpose by accident"

If you don't like that look, you can applique something over the "odd" square to camouflage the error. Just so you know, I normally don't know that something is "off" until the top is together.

Or put it square in the middle and saw it is different "because" it is the center block

Rearrange them and say you meant to make it that way. Creative license.

Or post your fabric here and maybe someone has some!

Thanks everybody! For now I have stacked all my other ready-to-put-together pinwheel block pieces in a corner until I decide what to do with the one block I am having trouble with...perhaps I'll make a "signature block" and kind of "mix it up" with the pieces/scraps I have left. I want it to be a kid-cuddle-quilt anyway, so this is one of those "finished is better than perfect" projects that lends itself to interesting solutions!

:-)

Tonight, after cutting all my blocks, I realized I had mistaken purple for pink. Stupid, I know. I now have to unsew all those lovely blocks, put pink in them and then finish the project. It's a lesson in reading my own plans better and going with my gut that said something was wrong!! Also a lesson inhumility and humble pie. I also am away from home and will need to buy a seam ripper and probably some pink b/c I didn't bring any extra fabric with me. And so it goes. :)

I read years ago that every quilt should have a mistake to let the evil sprites out. that's my excuse.
