well I had ordered from harbor friaght and they canceled my order of blades because it didn't meet there dollar amount for back orders. which is fine. found a local store and went yesterday. was looking and looking. (can't see the forest for the trees syndrome) asked a worker bee where they would be found and the young lady said that they sold the last pack a week ago and that they were discontinued. I asked her why they were discontinued when they were still carrying the cutters. She then admitted that she wasn't sure but was just guessing because the warehouse that they get them out of was out of them. So she concluded that they were discontinued. I was going to tell her that that is not what being out of something means. But it did make me wonder if she was right. I hope not, but plan on emailing corporate. just to make sure. I did however buy a cutter. (hubby thought it was for him   )
Has anyone else had the store tell them that it was being discontinued?

What will the carpet layers do without them??? My guess is that the quilters saw a good deal, took advantage of it and ran 'em dry. I'll bet the blades will be back soon (and probably cost more).

sahm4605 08-22-2010 01:27 PM

probably but a dollar or two more is still cheaper than anywhere else that I have found.

clem55 08-22-2010 01:28 PM

THe HF I went to this week was out, but the girl stocking shelves at the time said they would be there later in the day. Did get a couple of those suction handles though. A large one,6.99, and a small one for $2.00. It will be great on the smaller square rulers. HUbby wouldn"t let me look around very lonng, afraid I'd find something else!LOL

sahm4605 08-22-2010 01:30 PM

isn't it fun to re purpose things. hehe

sahm4605 08-22-2010 02:30 PM

to all those who have ordered from online and waited on back order, have you received yours yet? or gotten an idea of how long you were going to have to wait?

mygirl66 08-22-2010 02:30 PM

My thinking on this is that if Harbor Freight sells em, someone else does to for alot cheaper than JAF! Im going to check on Ace Hardwear tommrow on the way to the post office!

Not yet, but I went to the store in a different city and they had them

HoneysMom 08-22-2010 02:39 PM

I am behind the times. Are you saying we can get rotary cutting blades from Harbor Freight?

Sadiemae 08-22-2010 02:46 PM

Yes for a lot of the 45mm rotary cutters. Types that take blades like Olfa. I don't know what other brands.

HoneysMom 08-22-2010 02:52 PM

OK, I went on the website and couldn't believe my eyes. The price is awesome. I am heading to my local HF tomorrow. Thank you. This board is wonderful. My hubby has been out of work for 23 weeks due to surgeries, so I have been bargain shopping when it comes to this great hobby of ours.

There are a couple of other threads that are on the same tangent. LOL I had a Raincheck for 10 pkgs. and Friday I went to HFT to redeem it. They were still out and NO it is NOT being discontinued. It seems that the United States quilting community bought them all up. LOL!! The warehouse will be out for at least the next 3 weeks as they need to be shipped from China, and rainchecks will not be redeemable at the stores for about 6 weeks. So you are looking at about October before they will be availiable again. I also asked about buying in bulk and that can only be done from the website if at all. Oh lastly they will NOT ship your online order to your local HFT to save on shipping. They only ship to your address.
Well I think that about covers it. I hope this info was helpful.
Faith

:-D

Thanks Cobaltjars62. Great info.

tooMuchFabric 08-22-2010 08:55 PM

I went to the Harbor Freight site, and also to the Harbor Freight Tools site, and I can't find any sign of a rotary blade nor cutter.
Anyone got a link?
Thanks so much.

Colbaltjars62 08-22-2010 09:02 PM

They are listed as carpet cutting blade replacements for the carpet cutter. If you find the cutter it does have 3 blades in it for $3.99 which is still a good deal. Just throw the cutter itself away. That may be why you can't find it at HFT. Ask for the Carpet cutter, they have no idea what a rotory cutter is. LOL
:-D

tooMuchFabric 08-22-2010 09:40 PM

Haha! Ok, got it. Now to find a Harbor Freight's...

Wow. There's one in our next larger town on the way to Joann's.
Guess where I'll be stopping off next trip, eh???

Ok, so what else they got we'all's can use there, hmmmmm?

Ok, so what's the story with the cobalt jars? I know it's a tale of some kind!
Do you collect them? Or something?

Queen 08-23-2010 01:58 AM

I went Saturday and bought 3 pkgs and there were still some on the shelf. I made my husband very happy saying I wanted to go to HF. He said one of his favorite fantasys was having his wife saying she wanted to go to Harbor Frieght.

Mary

sahm4605 08-23-2010 04:38 AM

he just got his fantasy. now if he only knew the reason why you wanted to go hehehe.

I imagine that someone else sells them as well - but I have to say if HF has it - you will be hard pressed to beat their price!!

LOL well the mis-spelling is AOL's fault (wouldn't accept cobalt). I Love the color blue and I collect cobalt blue glass/jars etc. My hubby thinks that I have quite enough but there is no such thing as enough blue, is there?

Oh too funny Mary, I bet there have been many raised bushy eyebrows in the last few weeks when our men hear those words "Honey can you take me to Harbor Freight today?" Well is he going to fulfill one of yours now? I'm thinking a road trip to a favorite fabric store? Or perhaps a trip to a sewing machine store for a new machine?
LOL!!

:XD:

raptureready 08-23-2010 07:27 AM

When I called HF they said that they were on BO. Our local store is out of them because some quilter went in a week ago and bought all they had.

Colbaltjars62 08-23-2010 08:04 AM

They are out til about October. Or so HFT says.

Thanks so much.

Look up Flooring Tools. I had the same problem.

Colbaltjars62 08-23-2010 12:01 PM

Look up Carpet cutter and Carpet cutter replacement blades. HF has no idea what a "rotory blade" is.
