Understanding the block layout for" Thinking ouside the box".

I have looked all afternoon at this quilt and have read comments on this board and googled other sites. How is this block laid out. Is it really hou it looks? Blocks on top of blocks of a half log cabin. I don't have the pattern but it is stuck in my mind and I can't see how this works. Can anyone set my mind at ease a little. thank You:hunf:

It is not literally blocks on top of blocks. It's an optical illusion. The pattern name is 'Thinking Outside the Block' and it's available at toadusew.

Yes it is quarter log cabin. You make as many as you want depending on the size of the quilt. I did mine without a pattern just looked at a pic of a quilt and used scraps of a quilt I made for my husband (log cabin) and made one that is 6x6 blocks (I mean 36 blocks). You start with the four blocks in the middle to meet like you see in the pic then walk your way out by putting three quarter blocks in each of the corners of the first block and just go from there.
Here is a pic of few strips I just put so you can see the original block

Somewhere on this board there is a tutorial. I made a red and black one for my son with the instructions from the tutorial. It turned out awesome. It is an easy, fun quilt to make.

I bought the pattern and so far have not made the quilt. I do plan to someday, just my same old saying.
