Oh, my goodness! Contact them by phone. I do believe they will make it right. I ordered two pieces of fabric and did not like either of them. I called to return them. They gave me credit and told me to keep them. I guess that is cheaper than the hassle of returned items and employee cost.

I don't have a lot of experience buying fabric online. I was very satisfied with the solids I bought at fabricshack.com. The quality and color are both excellent and I got them on a good sale. JMHO. I do have a lot of friends that shop at fabric.com. This is the first I've heard of a negative experience.

I work at a corporate level for customer service in the toy industry. If you are able to talk to a manager, take it from this one that there are things you want to avoid. Try not to make it personal when talking to them. Avoid raising your voice. If you maintain a friendly but professional tone you are much more likely to get a satisfactory response. I would be careful about pointing out they may lose a customer. I was taught in training that the moment they threaten that, we shut down all communication. They don't want to shop anymore, it's on them not on us. It also helps to mention that you have purchased from them before and you have not had any problems with your order. You can also offer to ship it back to them so you can see what you are talking about. Just mentioning that you are willing to show them, instead of just talking on the phone, it will be even more likely that they will correct the issue.

P.S. Yes, I am trying to find a new job.

I agree, a second chance would be appropiate. I have ordered from them several times and never had that problem. My orders come promptly and neatly packed.

Sorry you had that experience, but do sent them another email, or better yet, they have an 800 number, call them and relate your problem. I am sure they would like to know who filled that order, as they depend on their service to survive.

The only time I tried to order from them, they took about a week to tell me that the item they advertised which I ordered 6 yards of, was no longer available. I think they should have not had it advertised if they didn't have the product and should have notified me sooner but I may still try ordering from them again.

I have had nothing but great service from fabric.com. Last Monday I placed an order, got my email confirmation on Tuesday and my fabric came on Thursday. My fabric is always neatly cut and folded and they have never made an error. I normally order between 10 - 12 yards at a time.

I hope they respond and make it up to you. It really is a good company. Apparently just some not so good employees.

They are my favorite on line store....I can't tell you how many $100's I've spent there. I've always received great service. This is probably due to a new employee that doesn't like the job. Sorry to hear that you have had a problem, but I'm sure they will make good....

I have never had the pleasure of ordering fabric. maybe someday, and when I am able to I will try them out. Penny

This can happen if there are only a few yards left. They do tell you how many yards are left at that moment and whether or not it's re-orderable, special purchase, etc.

I cant recomend frabric com for international orders. Waiting for an order of 6 yards of fabric, 4 cotton and 2 single jersey and ended up with almost 40 $ shipping cost.
After contacting them the lady insisted that my order did not fit into a flat rate envelope. I doubt that and told them, that they could have split into two envelopes to save me shipping costs.

They would not do so unless I made two orders.........
fatquartershop does and Hancocks even tells you at the check out "there is space for ...yard of fabric for the same shipping costs"

Thanks for the heads-up. I was thinking of ordering but won't now if shipping is so high. It doesn't save money in the end.

Raksmum,

Look into the shipping before you decide. I live in Alberta and they ship 8 yards for $12.50 in a flate rate parcel.

Shipping to Swizterland and shipping to Canada will not be the same. Given what fabric costs in Canada for me it is worth the shipping. Check it out.

While searching for a job this past week I found out some interesting info about them. First of all, they are a wholly-owned subsidiary of Amazon.com. Secondly, they are located in Marietta, GA, and have grown so rapidly that they probably will have to move to a much larger facility as they are now the largest online fabric store in existence. They have no brick and mortar presence for retail. Thirdly, they are currently increasing their staff to help manage customer service, marketing, etc. Now, my fourth point is very selfish...if anyone knows anyone who can give the hiring manager a nudge for me I would greatly appreciate it as I have applied for the Senior Customer Service position and really can't imagine a more perfect fit for me. And if by chance I get the job I will do my best to make sure that every customer is treated the way I would like to be treated myself. So, please don't stop shopping there!

JoAnn-Good luck with the job hunt. I think you would be great for the position and then we would all be assured that Customer Service at Fabric.com really means service for the customer!!!

Thanks JanieW, I will check it out!

I ordered for the first time from Fabric.com One of the pieces I ordered was backing - 108" wide. When it came it was not marblized like I ordered and it was so thin you could see through it. Nothing I could put on the back of a quilt and expect it to last. I the washed it and when I took it out of the dryer it seemed a lot smaller. I measured the width and it was 55" wide. I should have measured it before I washed it, but I know it was wider than that. So I emailed them with my complaint. They did send me a different piece (looks like the one I ordered). It is a much nicer, heavier piece. I washed it and it did shrink a little, but not like the other.
I probably will try them again

I expect all to be well but I'll holler loud and clear if it isn't!

My order arrived today right on time.
It was packaged well, they gave me more than generous cuts.
I order (5) 1/2 yd cuts and the smallest was 20", most were 23". The 1 yd piece I ordered was almost 1 2/3. All the fabric was great quality.
I ordered a 12 yard piece I am using for a couple of quilt backings. I figured 2 3yd pieces each quilt.
What I received was 13 2/3 yd. generous but it was a 10 yard piece and a 3 2/3 piece which was fine for me. If it would have been a 10 and a 2 I would be in trouble.
If I had needed a continuous 12 yard piece I would not have been able to use it.
I had ordered another 12 yard piece from another company and they picked up the phone and called me to find out exactly what I needed because they didn't have
a 12 yard single piece either.
That's good customer service and I think Fabric.com should consider doing that.
I am pleased with my order the way it worked out and I will use them again but if they have a comments box and I don't remember if they did, I would
certainly mention how I needed any large pieces cut.

I hope your problem has been solved.
:-D
