One of my twins, who is 5, brought home a library book about quilting. It is called "The quilt makers Gift" by Jeff Brumbeau. If you have little kids (or just love an adorable story) you should check the library for this one. It is about a woman that only makes her quilts to give to those who have nothing...not to be sold for any price. My little boy said...Look Mommy she makes quilts like you!
(and gives them away just like her....You could have picked my jaw off the floor when I found out how much you ladies are selling your quilts for. I just had never thought about selling them.....LOL...do not tell my husband) |
Cute story!

That's a wonderful book. Several years ago there was a line of fabric that matched fabrics portrayed in the story. In fact, our quilt guild has an annual challenge and that (The Quiltmaker's Gift) was the challenge topic for the year the fabric was around.
There's also a pattern book of the quilts by the same title.
There are 2 quiltmaker's gift quilt books, along with the corresponding story books.
I need to check this out.
I just recently bought "The Quiltmaker's Journey", couldn't find stock of the pattern book or the first book "The Quiltmaker's Gift". You are right, they are quite beautifully done, well worth a spot on a quilter's bookshelf.

My daughter gave me this book for Christmas a few years ago. It is a beautiful story.
I will have to look for it!
Amazon.com has them used from $1.20 + $3.99 shipping.

One of my friends gave me that book when "baby" (now 18) was a little boy. We really like it
Aw! That's so sweet. He must have been so happy to discover that book.
If it makes you feel better, I don't sell my quilts either. I keep them or give them away. :-) |
I remember purchasing one of those books, and it had a piece of fabric in it, as a little starter for a quilt to go with the story.
my sister in law gave all 3 books to my granddaughter for christmas about 5 years ago (or longer; cant remember that far back) there are 39 blocks/quilts altogether. we did find some of the flannel fabrics made specifically for the book...and the little girls and i picked out their favorite parts of the story and their favorite blocks. each granddaughter (3 of them) made their own 'quilt maker's gift story quilt' i have wanted to get a group of people together and do either a BOM or a row robin type project using these books, but have not so far been caught up with myself, or organized enough to get it going...one of these days :)

my Mother loved giving quilts ~ she never sold a single one
what a wonderful idea making a quiltmaker quilt with them. Sadly my older daughter just cannot sew (she is very artistic though), my 7 year old is special needs and facinated by the quilts, but terrified of using a sewing machine or a needle. My twin 5 year old boys love the quilts....maybe one of them will take up quilting.

This is a great book. It was given to me by an extremely good friend and a good quilter. I have read it several times and read it to the grandkids. It keeps me company in the sewing room.
